The place is nice, clean and peaceful. The owners are wonderful. The grandsons enjoyed playing pool and ping pong. The owner's father got involved with the boys playing pool. Enjoyed visiting with the owner's mom. Sat on the deck in the evenings enjoying the view of the mountains relaxing. It is located just a short distance from both Yellowstone and Cody.

We stayed here on night here while in the area. It was so comfortable. They took care of the little details and were very accommodating. The beds were comfortable. The boys enjoyed the game room. Breakfast was a good variety (waffles, hard boiled eggs, fruit, bagels, yogurt, cereal). Great location on the east side of Yellowstone and to spend some time in Cody.

We were booked in for two nights at the homey Wapiti Lodge. Our room was spacious and clean. In the morning we enjoyed a tasty breakfast spread and the good company of fellow travelers. After spending a wonderful day in Yellowstone, we enjoyed the scenic ride back to Wapiti, being enthralled with the hoo-doos and rugged landscape. On our next day's outing to Grand Teton and Jackson Hole, we again oh-ed and ah-ed our way along, UNTIL the main road from the Tetons back to Cody was closed due to a traffic accident. We scrambled to find lodgings in Jackson Hole and called Doug to let him know our arrival the next morning would be delayed past check-out time. He couldn't have been nicer nor more understanding and sympathetic! Thank goodness he allowed us to amble on back to the lodge at our own steady pace! Thank you Doug, you helped to make a silk purse from a very nearly sow's ear!

This is a places you want to go back to, I just wish we had found places along our 4000, mile trip as nice and clean as this was. We meet Jayne and Doug's father and enjoyed the morning breakfast hearing stories about the history of the lodge from Doug's father. Our breakfast was very nice, they had cereal, fresh fruit, waffles, boiled eggs, toast and my favorite yogurt in several favors. As we were leaving we seen our tire was very low on our car, without hesitation they came to our rescue, when we ask what we owed they wouldn't take a thing. Can you get that service at a chain motel? No way,

PS as we ate breakfast we watched little baby bunnies playing on the patio out side.

While touring Yellowstone, we spent 2 nights at the Wapiti Lodge and it was simply amazing. The lodge itself is exactly what you think of when you hear the word lodge. It is over 100 years old but recently and beautifully updated The rooms were fantastic, large and comfortable. They have a rec room perfect for eating breakfast before tackling Yellowstone and even better for hanging out in the evening and discussing all the other-worldly sights of that breathtaking National Park. The place manages to be romantic and family-friendly all at the same time. The Wapiti Lodge is an absolute gem. I highly recommend it!

Wonderful place. Owners were super, very helpful and full of tips. Helped map out our trip into Yellow Stone. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was nice. We would stay again for sure. Very competitive price per night for the area.

We stayed here for four nights so we could visit Yellowstone. Of our ten places we stayed on our four week tour of America this was the dearest.....and the dirtiest. If we hadn't pre-booked, one night would have been enough.
It is the nearest hotel/lodge to stay east of Yellowstone but still 30 miles away.
The owners were fantastic and extremely helpful.
There are two rooms at the front but right on the road so suffer from the traffic. We stayed in one of the two rooms at the back and you have to go down a few steps and the room is under the front ones. It didn't help that we had people above us who were up at 3 every morning pacing the room as you can hear everything.
We had a very large room and it was beautifully decorated. I can only think that the owners had forgotten to clean before we arrived as we had no hairdryer or coolbox in the room.
We had to clean the fridge, freezer and all the kitchen as it was dusty and sticky. There was a massive sticky puddle of coffee or coke next to the settee which we actually left as we were sick of cleaning by this point. Every time we opened the door half a dozen flies came in with us. I don't think the skirting boards, windows or curtains have every been washed.
Having said that, there were some lovely touches by the owners.
For example, if you were leaving early in the morning (before 7 am) to get to Yellowstone, they will make you up a substantial breakfast the night before and it really is enough to do lunch too.
They give you a cool box to borrow which is great in the summer months.
They have a laundry room for your use.
The other thing to remember is that you get no room service in America. No one comes in to make your bed or clean whilst you are staying.
The other thing to remember is that this is in the middle of nowhere. You must take all your provisions with you. They is a great Walmart on the outskirts of Cody (20 miles away).
There is a full size fridge and freezer and a great microwave (no toaster) plus two rings.
We bought tins of pasta, a tin of chilli and boil-in-the-bag rice, a cooked chicken and salad. There is also a filter coffee maker but I had done enough cleaning by then so left it well alone.
The bed is extremely soft and very uncomfortable if you like a firmer bed.
All in all, I am glad we went there and equally as glad to leave.
I would have given 4 stars but later spoke to couples who had stayed at some of the ranches nearer to Yellowstone and had a better and cheaper stay. Wish we had done the same.

Room Tip: Front rooms suffer from a very busy road so the back ones are quieter.

Jayne K, Owner at Wapiti Lodge, responded to this reviewResponded 12 October 2013

Please accept our sincerest apologies for a disappointing room !! I am glad that you enjoyed your overall stay with us. While there is no excuse for a less than impeccably clean room, there is also no way for us to know of your concerns if they are not voiced to us. Unfortunately, the conditions in your room could not be addressed and remedied, as this review on Trip Advisor was the first we heard of it.

In the future, may I ask that you and ALL readers voice your concerns and/or complaints to the owners of the business upon your arrival or discovery. We do provide our phone number for 24/7 access in the event that any issues arise during your stay.

As far as being in "the middle of nowhere" ... the benefit of staying between Cody & Yellowstone is that you are able to enjoy nature AND visit both areas without moving your base. In addition to our store at the lodge (liquor, snacks, ice, etc) there is a gas station/general store within 3 miles and numerous restaurants in our area between Cody and Yellowstone. As you mentioned, you may also bring groceries from town and cook in your suite, as all have kitchenettes or full kitchens.

In reference to our rates being higher than other lodges "closer to the East Entrance" ... the suite in which you stayed is without question, priced at or below any comparable unit in the area (including those without TV, WIFI, A/C, or kitchenettes.)

All in all, I do appreciate your review, as it allows us to improve our service going forward. But again, in the future, please let the owners when a problem arises so that it can be remedied immediately (rather than weeks later, after a 4-night stay).
