“Relaxing & relatively inexpensive spot on the Big Island”

We chose Bayview on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews and weren't disapointed. It's in a residential/agricultural area about 10-15 miles south of Kailua and about 1,000 feet up the side of the volcano. Great view of the ocean and a relatively short drive to a choice of beaches. Pat, the very nice owner/hostess serves a nice variety of breakfasts, heavy on great fruit, most of which she grows. Rooms are small, but comfortable. Not air-conditioned, but a ceiling fan and ocean breezes cool them pretty well. A number of good restaurants nearby if you don't want to drive back to the touristy part of the island for dinner. Warning: Don't scratch the Bayview cat's tummy!

Captain Cook is an area with a real "old Hawaii" feel, and this quiet, comfortable small B&B (4 rooms) with stunning views out over the Pacific fits right into that mold. The rooms are comfortable, well equipped (but not fancy. they all open onto a big lanai and lawn that face that great view. the "deluxe" room (which we had) has a small, more private-feeling lanai as well -- worth the extra cost. It is run by the owner in a low key, un-fussy but very competent way. She is friendly and ready to share her knowledge of things local. Homecooked breakfasts served on the lanai included lots of fresh island fruit and plenty of good coffee (an essential for me). Staying here I slipped effortlessly into the laid-back, close-to-nature island mindset that is one of the reasons I love Hawaii. If you are looking for glitz and nightlife, this is probably not for you. But for a peaceful stay in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to the area attractions (snorkeling, kayaking, beaches, coffee and macademia plantations, the City of Refuge) and a peaceful place to return to to watch the sun set over the ocean, this is the place.

Wonderful B&B overlooking the ocean, with sunsets that will take your breath away. Spotless room with private lanai, very quiet and safe area. Grounds are beautifully landscaped, with macadamia nut trees on the hill below. Fabulous breakfast with fruit grown on the property. Close to affordable restaurants, shopping, cultural sites. Friendly hostess is very knowledgeable about the area and will recommend places if asked. Quiet, peaceful, no intrusion of traffic sounds. We watched a whale and calf while we ate breakfast. Liked best: The hostess, the view, the location, the privacy. Follow directions carefully; it's easy to miss the sign the first time. Very highly recommended. We hope to return soon.

We have stayed many times at the Bayview Inn. Pat is a gracious host and this is the perfect place to use as a base to explore the Big Island. Feels very roomy with the large Lanai. Close to swimming, snorkeling and Honaunau. Quiet, great views, and clean. Great tropical fruits for breakfast. Since you are a bit south of Kona, a day trip to the Volcano is also reasonable.

My recent stay at the Bay View was wonderful. This Inn has everything one can ask for in a moderately priced room. My favorite items were the view and quite. Rooms where very clean and breakfast excellent, lots of local fruits.
