Ka'awa Loa Plantation is a great place to stay on the sunny side of Big Island. We stayed in the suite which is just fabulous. Everything's very tidy and clean and very tastefully furnished. Very nice veranda which is accessible for all guests with great view of the ocean +jacuzzi+ sauna in the garden. Greg and Michael are perfect hosts and their breakfast is just great. It felt like home. We can recommend it a 100%. Good price-value. We'd definetely stay there again.

Beautiful, peaceful, welcoming, quiet and luxurious. We had a wonderful stay at Ka'awa Loa. During the four days we soaked up the eye popping views, relaxed on the lanai while Hawaiian music softly lilted through the air and enjoyed the recommendations of our hosts for restaurants and activities on the Kona coast. The room was very clean, well appointed and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning included lots of hot and cold items to satisfy many dietary requirements. We stay in B&Bs 90% of the time and this is one of the best we have found, especially in the Big Island. While at the upper end of our price-range, it was very good value. The website and reviews do NOT oversell it. The location is very convenient to town, while still being peaceful and laid back. Our hosts were almost always present to answer questions, but were never intrusive. Perfect!

PS - If they have lilikoi butter, beg, borrow or steal to make sure you get some, it was REALLY good.

I stayed here two nights while attending a conference in the area. Upon arrival, I was stunned by the breathtaking views, open and spacious living room, reception, and kitchen, and the wrap around lanai. I was then welcomed by the most gracious hosts -- Greg and Michael -- who respect your privacy while providing all of the comforts and advice, only when asked. Their flower arrangements, nightly lanterns on the lanai at sunset were added treats. The best of all, I think, is the freshly made Lilliko Butter -- ask for it. It's to die for!

Greg and Michael are an inspiration for us other innkeepers!

My wife and I stayed at the Ka'awa Loa Plantation in Jan 2008. The hosts Greg and Michael made our stay comfortable. There isn't anything that they do not know about the local area and the Kona coast area. They made some local restaurant recommendations that were right on the mark!

The location of the guesthouse is fantastic. At first, when I was looking for accomodation in the area, I thought that a location closer to the beach would have been better. When we got to the Ka'awa Loa Plantation I was glad that we chose a location slightly further away and on the mountain. The view was incredible! We stayed 3 nights in the Honaunau room.

The accommodations were clean, well decorated and comfortable. The only surprise that we had was that the standard ocean view rooms have shared bathrooms. It turns out that the only room that has a private bath was the suite. Greg told me that some of the larger ocean view rooms will be turned into suites in the near future. The splurge for the suite would be well worth it.

I would rate the breakfast to be well above average. Greg would make a feature breakfast (waffles, pancakes, omlettes, etc) on top of the fresh tropical fruits, coffee and fresh breads.

I would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a quiet getaway vacation.

We stayed three nights and had a great time there. Everything is very clean and the owners are very nice and friendly people. Very nice rooms and a undescribable ocean view. We saw a lot of B&B's in the last years, but this one is a jewel. Just go there and convince yourself. Thanks a million again for the great stay! A&I

Our friend understated how nice Ka'awa Loa is when she recommended a stay there. The spectacular views, overwhelming sense of peace, warm hospitality of Greg and Michael, great breakfasts, quiet but lovely decor all contributed to a sense of complete wellbeing after our 2 days there. The outdoor lava rock showers with the touch of ferns and orchids, comfortable furniture, daybed, and geckos on the porch, were truly romantic Hawaii. We'll be back!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in September. The place ( the property, the garden, the views, all the loving touches) is a dream. It is very homely, filled with so many loving touches and is amazingly relaxing.

Greg and Micheal know their Hawaiiana stuff, know the local area well and are very accommodating. It is next to the best snorkeling spot in Hawaii, which we could canoe over to Instead of paying for an expensive tour (we took a canoe and saw turtles at the launch) . There is also more snorkeling/bay areas to explore nearby.

It is about 15-20 minute drive from Kona and its overly expensive sterile resorts (with their extra parking charges and arm bands to ID real guests!).

The breakfasts are just heaven and Greg is a charming host. There are also a couple of nice cafes and restaurants in the adjacent area.
