“Lovely b&b, great memories”
Reviewed 21 July 2013 via mobile

We really had a wonderful time here! The house is lovely, rooms are decorated with a big sense for the small details. Breakfast was great, couldnt be any better! We also enjoyed the great views from the lanai, the friendly hosts and the cute geckos! What a beautiful b&b ;-)

This is such a beautiful and relaxing B&B! Its so comfortable , you don't want to leave! As you entered the front door, you feel so welcome and the views are breathtaking! You could spent the entire day lounging on the lanai! But there 's lots to do around! Nice beaches in the proximity and great snorkeling! But we couldn't wait to go back to have our shower in the fantastic outdoor lava rock shower and then cocktail on the lanai! Michael & Greg are great hosts with lots of suggestions for actvities and dining around! Mi's Italian Bistro in Kealakekua was the best!
We were traveling with our 2 kids ( young adults) , and we had a lovely room with a shared bathroom ( this was never a problem, as the other rooms have their own 's) and our kids had a perfect room with 2 twin beds! ( way better than what they would get on their own in an hostel!!!)
One evening we went night diving , did not get to see any manta rays :( but we were greeted with a nice post-it on the front door: Brownies in the kitchen!!! How is this for a great hospitality!!

I'm not sure what we loved more....the view from the lanai, the scrumptious breakfast, the hosts, the relaxing environment, the location, or the super cool out door showers! Everything about this place makes it special and such a wonderful place to stay. My husband and I stayed here for three nights in April and would go back in a heart beat. The driveway had us in tears laughing so hard as our super crappy rental car struggled to make it up the drive. We sat on the porch and read and just watched the ocean. Our rental car freaked out at the local grocery store and they were more than helpful in sorting things out. Next time we'll be bringing along some friends to share such a fantastic place.

We stayed 2 nights at the plantation and loved it. Michael & Greg do a fantastic job. Our room was immaculate and every detail was well thought out. Michael greeted us in the morning with a wonderful breakfast. There was always fresh fruit, breads, homemade preserves, eggs, bacon, homemade banana pancakes and of course the delicious coffee they grow on the property. We enjoyed our breakfast on the lanai over looking the Kealakekua Bay. The view was spectacular! The property is beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed showering in the outdoor shower after spending the day at the beach. We felt like we were visiting family while staying there. Michael gave us tips on places to eat in the area and he was right on! We'd love to go back and visit again. This B&B is a short distance south of Kona and worth the trip. There's a black sand beach not far away and a quaint town to have lunch or dinner. You'll get a feel for life on the Big Island and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Michael and I could not have possibly had a better stay. We felt we had "lucked out" finding this total gem of a spot south of Kona. The property is so well-cared for and is so full of welcoming energy. We loved the home-style breakfast, complete with fresh fruits from the property and hilarious stories from Michael the owner. Nights on the lanai are so relaxing and lull you to sleep. The views really don't get much better than what they have, even in the most expensive resorts. In fact, the absence of attitude and stuffiness really makes this better than a commercial resort could ever be.

Room Tip: nice to have a room with a half bath. the outdoor showers are WONDERFUL. Leave your hangups at home.

We stayed 3 nights at the plantation. Michael and Greg were wonderful hosts. Michael was a joy first thing in the morning and always had a great story to tell! Unfortunately, we missed breakfast 2 of the 3 days because we were up early adventuring, but the breakfast we did eat was fantastic. Michael made sure we had some fruit, hardboiled eggs, toast, and jam to eat on our early mornings before breakfast officially started. On check-out day our flight wasn't until 10:45 pm. Michael offered us the outdoor showers and fresh towels to use to get cleaned up before our flight, even though we had already checked out. This was great as we had been at the beach all day and we were able to get cleaned up for dinner. We would definitely stay here again.

I will begin by saying that this review is long overdue. My husband and I have stayed with Greg and Michael 7 times over the last 4 years. The plantation house itself is beautiful with extraordinary attention to detail. The breakfasts are fantastic with a great variety of food options available to meet everyone's tastes and needs. If your plan is to eat out, Greg and Michael can recommend restaurants (our favourite is 'Mi's' Italian restaurant just up the road) but guests can also prepare meals in the kitchen and eat at 'home'. The view is breathtaking from the verandah-whatever time of day or evening. I have said all of this because I appreciate that for people who are planning to visit Ka'awa Loa for the first time, these details are important. You will not be disappointed in any aspect of your stay at Ka'awa Loa. Having said all of that, the most amazing part about staying with Greg and Michael is...staying with Greg and Michael. It is like coming home. They allow you to be family-and to be clear it's the family that you really like! The peace and comfort that permeates Ka'awa Loa cannot help but make its way into your spirit. The only way we now cope with having to leave, is by knowing when we are returning. I cannot recommend a stay at Ka'awa Loa enough. It needs to be on everyone's bucket list. Enjoy.
