“Amazing B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2013

My husband and I really enjoyed Ka'awa Loa Plantation. We stayed there from August 27th to 31st in the cottage. We really enjoyed the cottage and liked the privacy it gave us. I think on our next visit we will stay in the suite. It was amazing to say the least. The property is so relaxing and Greg and Michael were fantastic hosts. The breakfasts were fantastic and not your typical little spread of breads, but fresh eggs, pancakes, all kinds of fruit, yogourt, jams anything you could basically want was there. Michael even made a pineapple upside down cake which was fantastic. The hot tub was also great. We enjoyed it one night while watching the stars. I can't say enough good things about Ka'awa Loa. We will definitely return and recommend it to anyone travelling to the Big Island.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in late August 2013 and absolutely loved this wonderful place. Greg and Michael are excellent hosts and their property is perfectly located on the upper slopes of a large hill overlooking Captain Cook's Bay. We stayed in the large suite which was immaculately presented, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated.

The large wrap around veranda with comfortable cushioned sofas and chairs is the perfect place to enjoy the wonderful breakfasts in the mornings or a wind down glass of wine in the evenings. The main house is wonderfully presented and a credit to the owner's creativity.

This is a truly wonderful property and I cannot explain in words how truly special it is. We will definitely return again and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for peace, tranquility and beauty.

Room Tip: We stayed in the large suite on the ground floor, which has a large airy bathroom, a huge walk-in cl...

We stayed 2 nights at Ka'awa Loa Plantation while visiting the big island of Hawaii.
It was the prefect stay and would go back 100% if we were in the area.
Hannah was very friendly getting us settled in and her homemade chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie were super. She gave us some ideas to see while visiting
Greg the host was extremely friendly and a wealth of knowledge. His breakfasts were great and healthy. There was plenty of local fruit grown onsite on menu.
The BB is a little tricky to find and shares a driveway with several houses.
The BB is gorgeous, well maintained and has great views overlooking the coast. The wrap around porch is beautiful. The other quests were usually out there and was easy to share a conversation. Our room was nice on 2nd floor and was spotless clean as was the entire house. it did have shared shower with several rooms. It was not a problem for us. They have a unique outside lava shower which we used one afternoon. It was amazing.
It is a short 10 minute drive to get to the beaches. There are lots of places to visit, eat and shop nearby.
It is a perfect location to explore the Kona coast.
We liked the cute little lizards that visited us while eating breakfast on porch in the mornings.

My husband and I stayed at Ka'awa Loa Plantation for four nights last week. The place is cozy and it has a lovely wrap around porch with rocking chairs, tables and a cushioned bench chair. The porch has an amazing view of the bay and plantation. The property also has an outdoor hot tub overlooking the bay and plantation and a steam room/sauna that we did not use during our visit. Michael and Greg were perfect hosts. Michael greeted us each morning with a delicious and filling breakfast (fresh fruit from the plantation, local bread and jams with the main entree rotating each day: french toast, eggs, breakfast casserole, kahlua pork, sausage, bacon, etc.) Michael also baked a pineapple upside down cake one afternoon which was a pleasant surprise after a day of hiking and snorkeling. The rooms, shared bathroom, lava rock showers and common areas are kept very clean. There are also nice added touches all around the house i.e. using plants from the plantation as decoration and accent pieces. Michael and Greg have really paid attention to every detail of the house. Our room faced the ocean and had a private half bath. I used both the outdoor lava rock shower and the shower in the shared bathroom and both had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Another highlight of the trip was that Michael and Greg made sure you were squared away each day and they were happy to assist or make any recommendations. If nothing else, you should stay at Ka'awa Loa Plantation to listen to Michael's humorous stories that will keep you laughing throughout your visit.

This was our third trip back to the Big Island and the Ka'awa Loa and each time it gets better. About 15-20 minutes from Kailua Kona this place is the perfect escape from it all. The house has amazing views of the coast and a gentleman type feel throughout. With its open floor plan and décor that's just right it's a very warm and inviting place to stay. It is situated up the mountain slope allowing for beautiful weather that makes the fan in your room all you need for a perfect sleeping temperature. The outdoor lava rock showers are amazing and will leave you wanting one in your own home! Michael and Greg are excellent hosts and we cant say enough about how helpful they are with whatever you are looking to do. If you want a recommendation for dinner not only will they give you all the options you could ask for, but they will also make the reservation. If you are looking for a beach or an excursion they can give you options for the spots not found in guide books and the best directions to get there. Breakfast on the lanai is worth the trip almost by itself. The food is great, the views are amazing, and the feeling of relaxation will wash over you. We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are great but the upstairs mountain room has a private half bathroom at a better pr...

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst on our honeymoon in the Kealakekua Room. The plantation is absolutely beautiful, 5* luxury with a great hot tub and outside lava shower which can't be described in words! Even with all this, the best part was the aloha spirit showed by the host, Hannah. She was so welcoming, made sure we had everything we needed and cooked an amazing breakfast that just kept coming. Absolutely superb!

This was our first trip to Hawaii and we were so lucky to start our trip here. We were welcomed like family into a spacious, well appointed home. The inn keepers were warm, enthusiastic, and helpful. There was always someone to offer advice, make a reservation, or just chat about the day. Our favorite things here??? Early morning coffee watching the bay and planning our day. Sitting on the lanai chatting with guests. The outdoor shower- what a treat! A bit out of the main town, but there are SO many great things to do within a short drive. JUst down the hill is Manini BEach- gorgeous coral and lava rock pebble beach- we saw our first sea turtle there. Stop at the local farmers markets to sample local foods, produce, crafts. Don't miss the Coffee Shack or the Kava rstaurant in town for great Hawaiin food.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cottage which is a small private building, very quiet, but a bit more rustic than t...
