Stopped here for lunch on our way back to Kona. Service was the good but the food was just ok. However, their passion fruit margarita was outstanding.

Wow! This is helpful! What did you have to eat? What didn't you like? You must be fun ... criticize folks with no relevant information - just criticism. Interesting way to live. Sorry you were unhappy and I sure wish you'd given us a clue how to improve....

We stopped here for lunch one day and were pleasantly surprised at the service and the quality of the food...despite some of the negative reviews. In general, we have found that food on the Big Island is not quite as good as the San Francisco Bay Area where we are from - but few places are! Traveling is all about enjoying where you are and appreciating new experiences so although we
have passed Bamboo several times on other trips, we decided to try it.

We were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. We waited less than 2 minutes before the waitress approached us to take our drink order. The restaurant specializes in mixed drinks made with lilikoi drink mix. While we didn’t order these type of drinks, they looked fabulous and included margaritas, martini’s and mai tais.

We opted for the Hawaiian Stir Fry and a Vietnamese Tossed Salad for entrees. We could not decide on the traditional teriyaki sauce or the Thai style coconut sauce and the waitress kindly offered to bring both on the side. Both were delicious but we definitely preferred the coconut sauce. The Vietnamese tossed salad came with a fried egg roll (somewhat greasy) and a delicious sweet chili dressing (on the side).

The interior of the restaurant is somewhat kitschy and dark but seems to fit the local ambiance well. There is plenty of parking along the street in front of the restaurant. There is a gift shop which shares space with the restaurant that has many interesting items - we loved the wooden doorstops with thong clad posteriors (check them out)!

The cost for two lunches with (non-alcoholic) drinks and tip was $42. While not inexpensive, most restaurants in Hawaii are not cheap and we would definitely eat here again.

I ordered the special that day which was delightfully delicious. My husband did the sliders options which he enjoyed. Our waitress was very busy and we didn't mind waiting. The pineapple slushies were just awesome. Love this place.

I love the Kailua pulled pork sandwich, every time we come I order this, so good. Sweet! Lilikoi Margaritas are so good too! There is a store in the building with art and crafts to buy. The little town of Hawi is so cute and up and coming. There are many lookout point to see beautiful views around for after your meal.

The Bamboo Restaurant in the quaint, largely undiscovered town of Hawi. is one of the few dining choices in historic Hawi. It's a lovely 60 mile coastal drive North from Kona. The building that houses the restaurant once served as the old Takata Department store. It now offers good honest breakfast/brunch and dinner fare. Nothing fancy, just good food and local exotic drinks and a great place to stop off after exploring the extreme North Coast of the Big Island and heading back to the bright lights and big city of Kona.
