“Very dated, but clean.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2012 via mobile

Ok, let me start out by saying that Hilo isn't a fancy place with fancy hotels, so the standards on that side of the island are lower. That being said, the hotel is in a good location, overlooking the water. It's a little drive to downtown but a nice quiet location. It's right near Banyan drive with a beautiful street lined with old, massive banyan trees. The rooms are extremely dated and upon first glance, I was mortified. After closer inspection, I realized that the room was very clean and had all of the necessities to have a good night's sleep. The staff was nice and we had no problems to mention. The price was really exceptional for Hawaii, so if you need a good value and aren't too picky about the decor, this is your place.

I decided to stay in Hilo a night. I checked tripadvisor reviews but other hotels seemed no different than this hotel. I really didn't take others' complaints regarding noise from the street. I was dead wrong. I know it is Hilo but if you want to stay here you have to make sure you have to request a quiet room. I ended up no sleep all night. I literally felt like sleeping in the Banyan Way where the hotel is. The room has operable glass windows susceptible to noise and Matson trucks are delivering almost all nights and early morning. Other than this, the hotel is just a typical Hilo hotel. We had breakfast which included in our rate. Overall, it is very comparable to Days Inns in anywhere close to highway in main lands but very noisy. You will see what I mean if you stay here.

The Hilo Seaside Hotel was a nice place to stay. Rooms are a bit outdated with old looking washrooms but they were clean. Can be a bit noisy with it being close to the airport but it seemed like there were no flights leaving in the evening (it didn't disturb our sleep). Only problem we had was a loud airconditioner. Friendly staff and free wifi in the lounge.

This hotel took every opportunity to please us. Their open lobby, fish filled lagoon and primrose path garden made them a tropical delight. We enjoyed our stay here. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Love this hotel. Hilo definitely feels like how Hawaii was before all of the tourists came. ROoms clean and front desk staff very friendly. Front desk open 24 hours. Was able to check-in early.

Only downside
- No elevator so be prepared to lug your suit case/s up the stairs.

Lovely breakfast at the restaurant Coconut Grill located onsite.

Hire a car in Hilo to see the best of this town. 45 mins away from Volcanoes National Park.

Although this property is "mature" (as is everything in Hilo), it is wonderfully maintained, attractive and clean. It feels every bit of of the Hawaii of yester year! The room was comfortable with a new bath and the cleanest grout I have every seen! The towels were soft and fairly absorbent. There is an room air conditioner but the new fan kept the room cool. The mattresses were comfortable. The furniture was a little dated but functional. The room was equipped with a small refrigerator, coffee pot, iron and hairdryer. The pool area is pleasant with a shaded area to enjoy a good book. Lovely landscaping, including a fish pond, compliments the atmosphere. The Hukilua Lounge offers a fantastic happy hour from 2-6 Monday-Friday (domestic beer $2; others $3; cocktails $4; pupus $5)! We were luckily enough to also have live, soft music. The Coconut Grill restaurant is reasonable for Hawaiian standards, especially breakfast. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. (This hotel is family owned and operated and their pride shows.) My only suggestion is if you are light a sleeper, request a room away from the highway--we were in room 7 in the pool wing. There is Matson freight traffic roaring past most of the night. It didn't bother me too much since I live along a busy highway. Also don't expect vast ocean views--although it is called the "seaside," the hotel is located across the street from an inlet. We got an unbelievable kama'aina rate of $72/night since we live on the Big Island. The Seaside will be our hotel of choice for all our future visits to Hilo!

Room Tip: Stay away from the highway side!

My husband and I have recently stayed at the seaside.. I dont think it can be called a hotel. .it was more of a motel than anything.. I must say tho the staff was excellent.. very friendly and helpful. Our first room the toilet overflowed and we had to plunge it to get it to semi work.. well by morning it was broke again.. we asked for an upgrade.. they said they had given us one.. Im like "thats an upgrade?" It was right across the pool from the last room. It was so noisy there. I was there on vacation.. all I got was noise.. all these kids at the pool every day.. very loud. and if things could not get any worse.. here come the weekend crowd. they must come there on the weekends to party.. and of course they put all of them around us. It was so noisy outside I couldnt sleep or rest. Im not sure what sort of Hotel you are running.. but nobody is going to want to stay there with all the noise..and expecially if you have to plunge your own toilet.. and lets talk about the internet.. 8.95 per day.. are you serious? I was there for 6 days and if you do the math. I was not going to pay that. and oh if you got a supersaver room your breakfast was not included. Our room was 2 double beds. I would of liked a king. .but I guess thats for the supreme rooms.. and the view of the ocean.. was not the ocean.. it was the bay. rooms were clean at best.. hotel staff very friendly cant complain there. I will not stay there again... way too noisy and the parking is even worse. If you can find a parking spot good luck with that. I think there are also long term rentals there too.. not my idea of a resort hotel. I will stay in Kona next time.

Room Tip: dont stay on the rooms next to the pool.. nor the ones by the street.. it is a very busy street and...
