“Tasty, lots of choices and great value!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

We found Hiro's Place on Yelp and will definitely be back! It's cafeteria style and only seating is outdoors but there are a lot of choices and two of us ate like kings for $17! Fried rice is excellent and the pork cabbage was yummy. The full plate lunch let us try a bunch of different foods. They're only open for breakfast and lunch. Nice change of pace and an inexpensive way to try local foods!

“Fast food, Great rice, Cold fish”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

Maybe ordering tempura fish from a cafeteria style restaurant is a bad idea, especially when I realized it wasn't really under a heat lamp, but it was terribly cold and greasy. Still, other options looked VERY GOOD and HOT and there are always locals eating there so you know it has to be good and we just got one bad serving. THE FRIED RICE WAS INCREDIBLE and the prices were a real bargain. We will try again because the rice was soooo good and there were plenty of options. (the sweet and sour spareribs looked great as did korean chicken and there was pork adobo. They seem to have "daily specials" and always have chili and rice, loco moco, and more!)

“Great food, Fast & Cheap.”
Reviewed 18 November 2012

We ate here for something quick on the way to the airport. Crammed into a strip mall storefront, the place is very much like a cafeteria style service, you enter the door on the right, call out your choices from the steam tray buffet line, pay and exit the left door. Seating is patio tables on the covered sidewalk outside. The KTA grocery store next door makes for a crowded parking lot, but the food is worth the effort.

There were five of us, and we tried a variety of options and shared among ourselves. The favorite was the chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken and kalua pork. Service was fast and friendly, and definitely is a locals place.

“Cheap eats, large portions, open early.”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

Hiro's can't be beat for value. It was recommended by a struggling recent college graduate, so I knew going in that it had to be a great value. They have a good selection of grab and go bentos in various sizes to match your appetite, and the large is only $4.95!! They also have a selection of a dozen or so hot dailly specials that you can mix and match to your liking. Their portions are generous, so you won't leave this place hungry. The food tastes good; not great, but this is cheap eats, not fine dining. Perfect place for a filling, inexpensive meal for the whole family. They open at 5:30 am every morning, so it's a perfect stop for breakfast if you catch the first flight into Hilo.
