Good location and free parking was a plus. Convenient to so many natural beauties. Cleaning needed some improvement.
I don't think the reviews were accurate. Although the view of the pool and the bay behind the pool were nice, the condo unit and property was less than desirable. We tried to make the best of our stay (since we paid for it!) by: airing out the condo to rid the musty smell - every morning and upon return, left the sliding door open to let some breeze flow through; spraying the bed, sofa-bed and carpet with Fabreeze; cleaning the shower, sinks, counters and floors; and changing out the very-used sponges. The bath and dish towels needed washing, that we ended up buying our own. Appliances didn't work too.
In a nutshell, if the owner took the time to paint, made minor changes to upgrade the look of the condo unit, and cleaned and aired out the unit BEFORE a new renter/visitor came, a little would surely go a long way.
Sadly, you get less than what you paid for. Sorry.
We really liked this place.
We had enough space and it had everything that you need.
Of course a little old but we don't mind.
Very quite place and nice balcony with a view over the bay and pool area.
So nice to sit on the balcony and look out at the bay. The place was fine and convenient for our travels around Hilo. The owner was very responsive and even though far away, worked hard to meet our needs. Lovely to hear the waves at night from bed. Big refrigerator and freezer and the basics of kitchen supplies made cooking and eating in easy. Thanks!
A lovely little studio apartment with great views of the sunrise. Clean and tidy. Cooking facilities were enough for a couple of days stay. In a basic apartment block a little way out of town (30 min walk) but nice scenery on the walk in. Plenty of parking. The pool was generally empty at the end of the day for a relaxing swim, although could definitely do with updating. We stayed in Hilo to visit the volcano, and this was an easy drive from here.
The picture of pool is actual view from unit's balcony. It faces the East, so you get the most amazing sunrise! (We were 4 hours ahead of HI time, up super early!) There is a night watch person on duty, very nice to residents and protective of the building. The building itself is in what I think to be the prettiest part of Hilo--Banyan Drive. Walking distance from Coconut Island and Queen Gardens. There are 3 beaches in Hilo, and 1 of them happens to be steps away from the building. There are luxury resorts about 500 feet down the street, this isn't one of them, but the price more than reflects it. The owner is not on island, but responded to my texts within 30 minutes each time. Housekeeper is lovely, people in building are nice but just curious, which made them a little chatty (in a nice way). Hilo is its own trip, like going to a different island than one on Kona side. Not a whole lot of tourists, my 10 year old girl made tons of friends with local kids. One kid knew like every fish in the bay (tons!), I was totally secretly double-checking on google: he was right on! She went crab-hunting (used tongs to snatch them), best part--NO mosquitoes!!
Well, this was an amazing find... I visited my Mom for a week, she has retired in Hilo, and this was the perfect spot for me! This is a corner unit on the 3rd floor and so private. Looking at the ocean was my favorite thing to do. If you get to stay here your vacation will be Awesome too! I'm up early today, my final day here, and the sun is slowly rising... I plan to stay here next time I come back.
