My family and I visited Hilo for two days and stayed at Dolphin Bay for one night. We had one two bedroom and one studio. This is a very nice hotel - it is not big, not luxurious, but very well maintained, staffs are amazing, flowers beautiful, etc. There are papaya to eat through out the day and free breakfast with amazing coffee and banana bread. All the rooms are very well designed and maintained. There is no AC, but it is not hot at all, even in August. There are little green beautiful gecko everywhere on the property. They are so cute to see! If I come back to Hilo, I will definitely come stay here again!

We stayed 4 nights in one of the 1 bedroom suites which was a perfect size for 3 adults and 1 child. We found the Dolphin Bay very quiet during our stay and well within walking distance to downtown Hilo. Parking at the hotel can get a little tight during busy times but there is plenty of open spaces on the street if needed.

The owners/staff were very helpful and had plenty of beach mats, towels, boogie boards, etc for us to use during our stay. During our stay we did quite a bit of cooking and found the mini kitchen in our room very useful and quite adequate for cooking meals for 4 people. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay near downtown Hilo and get away from all the hustle and bustle of a larger/busier hotel.

We weren't 100% sure what to expect, but it's a nice little hotel close to downtown at a good price. Owners are super friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean. No AC, as mentioned, but there are plenty of fans. Nice coffee and fresh fruit available as well.

We'd stay there again, no problem.

I am use to staying in name brand hotels on the main land, and I must say, I was not quite sure what to expect. We have enjoyed our stay at the Dolphin Bay and will definitely stay and recommend it to our family and friends that will vacation on the Hilo side. The full kitchen was very much appreciated as we stocked up on water and food to pack along as we explored this side of the island. It was nice to be on a nice quiet street. It gives you a feeling of living amongst the locals. We enjoyed the area and coming 'home' to our room at the end of the day. We enjoyed listening to the birds and frogs (I'm guessing) singing us to sleep and to be our wake up call. Also do not forget to enjoy the free baked daily banana bread or the fruits laid out by the front desk. You will enjoy the luscious tropical forest feel in this area.

Our room was clean and check-in/out was a breeze!

Can't say enough great things about Dolphin Bay. Stayed here in June with my family of four--the accommodations were perfect! We had a one bedroom unit, which gave us more than enough space. The room was immaculate and was equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals. As other have noted, there is not A/C but--even in mid June--it didn't feel necessary. PLUS we got to fall asleep to the sound of the Coquis... so COOL!

EVERYONE on staff was so pleasant and welcoming. John provided us a wonderful orientation to the island on our arrival and took the time to point out some worthwhile points of interest in the area. The kids really enjoyed the fresh fruit and banana bread in the mornings, and I really apprecieated the constant stream of coffee available in the lobby :-) Perfect way to start the day off right!

The close proximity to downtown Hilo is great--lots to see and do within easy walking distance.

Dolphin Bay, I look forward to visiting again sometime soon!

We stayed here for 2 nights as a base for viewing the northern part of the island. Great to have a small kitchen in which to prepare meals etc. No AC, but hey, that's one of the reasons of going to Hawaii - to feel the warmth.

Super clean, very reasonable rates. I was concerned about the lack of AC ( I HATE being hot, especially at night), but the fans and the cross breeze made the room really comfortable. It wasn't an issue at all. Besides, keeping the windows open allowed us to be lulled to sleep by the frog symphony outside...it was really amazing. Fresh fruit available all the time and terrific homemade banana bread is served as a courtesy in the morning. Fresh flowers in our room every day...a nice touch! It's dated and there are no amenities ( not even phones). Only a cat is available in the lobby after 8 pm. True story. Eve so, It was a great place to stay for our visit to Hilo.
