We stayed in the Cuckoo nest (anex building) and loved every minute of it! A welcome change in decor from the usual chintz that you see in Hawaiian hotels, modern bathroom and furniture laced with local feel. Cuckoo nest has it's own lanai which is a nice touch, perfect for catching a cheeky sunset with a beer!

You have access to the stunning main house lanai too, sunbeds, pool (a bit nippy in February!) and hot tub - kick back and look out to sea.

Bill is a really welcoming host, definitely make the most of his recommendations for snorkelling and the sights, and stop for a coffee on the lanai to find out about his interesting life!

It's in a great location for big island exploring, with kona just 15 mins drive away for restaurants etc - the only thing to note is Hilo is a 2-3hr drive away! Kona is prettier than Hilo, despite it being smaller. Sam's Choy is a decent place for first night dinner and drinks, and check out Annie's burgers for something quick and easy. Be sure to visit the Four Seasons restuarants and spend some time on the Fairmount Orchid beach for some whale watching whilst sipping a cocktail! With two steps snorkelling site 20 mins away, Haleakala is spot on!

Dont even consider paying the hotel prices when you can stay somewhere like Haleakala and feel at home!

PS watch out for the early morning cockerel wake up call! Otherwise sleep quality would have been a 5...

Room Tip: Cuckoo Nest room is definitely worth the higher rate for the privacy

Too many great things to say about our stay at the B&B. Bill and Patty were excellent hosts, giving us a wealth of information about the Big Island and spot-on recommendations for food and recreational activities. Their puppy Khaleesi was a blast to play with (no barking and very well trained). The food options are quite good (both options Bill offers are great, Splasher's crab cake eggs benedict were my favorite). One look off their lanai at the sunset and you will never want to leave. We will surely be back, and not soon enough at that!

Room Tip: Any and all. You won't be disappointed

Bill is a marvelous host with lots of good recommendations for restaurants and activities. His B&B has two rooms, each with a beautiful view of the Pacific. The rooms are immaculate, with zen-like features including temperpedic mattresses, beautiful hardwoods, and a spacious well-appointed bathroom. We stayed in the smaller, downstairs room with access to the home's private lanai. I thought it might be awkward to share the back porch of the home's owners, but that couldn't have been further from our experience. We had the lanai to ourselves for much of our visit but were happy when Bill could join us as he was such good company and told wonderful stories that kept us engaged for many a happy afternoon. Bill's dining recommendations were also spot on, particularly Splasher's for breakfast and a litttle sushi shop for dinner. When our travels take us again to the Big Island, Bill's Haleakala B&B will be at the top of our list.

Room Tip: The "Nest" is the larger of the two rooms, but the smaller Aloha Room, where we stayed, is beautiful and an A+ accommodation that will not disappoint.

Stay here when you are in Kona and you will not be disappointed! Beautiful room, grounds, view and Bill and Patty are great hosts. The pictures posted show exactly what you get. Short drive to Kona and nature all around. We stayed in the Kokua Nest and loved the privacy of our own lanai, but knew that Bill was nearby to help if needed. We were able to borrow swim fins and beach towels for snorkeling. Loved the delicious breakfasts at Splashers. The only drawback is the early morning roosters...but Bill also provides earplugs to help with that.

I highly, highly recommend for those who are NOT looking for a resort/hotel experience.
