The Ueshima Coffee Estate is also known as UCC - to me a brand of canned coffee beverages found in Asian markets. It was nice to see their physical location. We didn't book an official tour because we weren't sure if they had English tours, but we walked around, tried out their great peaberry coffee, hung out with the wild turkeys. Lots of Japanese tourists, tours in Japanese. Free ice cream with purchase. Not the 'best' coffee I've ever had, but hey it's still nice to see where the coffee is actually produced. Good stop if it's on your way from point A to point B. Hula Daddy coffee is on the same road - fantastic coffee with free tours running daily. I'd visit both in one trip.

We found this place while looking for someplace else and we are so happy we stumbled upon it. The manager at the UCC Coffee plantation gift shop made us feel like V.I.P.s. This is one of the largest coffee companies in Japan and this is their Kona plantation outlet. You can take a tour and have your photo put instantly on a bag of your "own" blend of coffee! There are great samples of dark and medium roasts as well as the primo coffee made with the Peaberry. The view from the gift shop and parking lot is fabulous and for those of you who rent a car and make the short (15 min) trip from the harbour off the Pride Of America cruise ship, you will get an excellent photo op with the ship in the background! It is also is an excellent place for a toilet stop. Check out the amazing bathroom facilities. Trust the Japanese to have the best inventions!

We did the brewmaster tour and learnt a LOT about Kona coffee! It was fun to roast our own coffee and taste different varieties and the staff was very nice. The only Kona coffee tour I would reccomend!

Contrary to the many very tourist-y coffee farms and shops, the Ueshima Coffee store is a working producer with a low-key store and friendly, helpful people. The store, which on it's sign says it is an "outlet" is hidden away in the Captain Cook area near the bay. We came across it by accident and decided to stop because we were out of coffee. The staff there were very informative as we tried to decide which variety to choose. Many flavors to sample. Ueshima uses a chopping rather than grinding method to process its coffee and it makes for a very pure flavor. Now back home, I'm going to order more!

Heard that this coffee company would let you make your own coffee. That sounded like a neat activity/souvenir gift item so we took the drive to visit. We missed the building on the first drive by-there is no big touristy sign identifying it like you would see for the Dole Plantation, for example. We asked what was involved with making your own coffee blend and it didn't sound like it was worth the money. They provide you with the beans and you pour them into a machine where you sit and look at the machine doing its thing for 20 minutes. Then you pour it into a bag with your picture on it. Yay. For $30/person, I think I'll pass. You don't get to look at the whole coffee production process or make your own blend which is what I would have liked. It's all about learning something new. So after declining to spend the big bucks for the honour of a coffee bag with our pic on it, we tried some free samples of coffee and purchased a few blends for family and friends. The girl in the gift shop was patient and informative and spent a lot of time with us explaining the different blends available and the "crack-ulating" process they use to make it. We left a few dollars lighter than before, and with ice cream.
