The building is stunning. Our room had the most comfortable bed and pillows we've ever found. Breakfast was beautifully prepared, tasty, and filling. The amenities were very complete, and the location was very nicely removed into the countryside. It was a bit of a surprise to find ourselves near cows and roosters on neighboring properties, because Waianuhea is so contemporary and fancy. Their web site certainly conveys the sense of space and ultra-modern luxury accurately. They had a very complete selection of foods and drinks at the common kitchen. The location was convenient to Honokaa, Waimea, and the Waipio Valley, and an easy drive over to Hilo or over the Kohala Mountain Road, but a pretty long drive direct from the Kona airport in the late afternoon/early evening (take 190 as far as Waimea, not 19, and that should help the drive).

We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon. Very modern amenities which isn't necessarily what you expect at a bed and breakfast but a well addition in my mind. It was very useful to have internet access and a communal hot tub. We stayed in the smallest room but since the rest of the house is so spacious we never felt cramped. The breakfast food was amazing and I've never had such good food at a wine social hour at a B&B before. Very large DVD collection with just released movies. Enjoyable hosts. I felt pleased with the price.

We stayed at the Inn for 5 fabulous nights in November and can't say enough about our stay there. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was excellent and the atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable. Each afternoon they provide wine and hors o'doveurs in a common area which allows for interaction with other guests as well as staff. There is a small kitchen in the main building stocked with all sorts of snacks and meals for the hungry traveller and they have a huge collection of DVDs to watch in your room. This inn is definately worth visiting! One consideration is that the inn is rather remotely located however nothing on the island is more than 1 or 2 hours away and the surrounding area is beautiful.

My husband and I stayed at Waianuhea for two nights on the tail end of our honeymoon. We felt like we walked into paradise as soon as we arrived. The entire place was filled with the most amazing tropical flowers in wonderful arrangements. On every wall is a fantastic piece of art. We stayed in the Lio'lio room and loved it. The room came with complimentary champagne, fantastic flowers, a great deck and soaking tub in the bathroom. Every time we left our room, the bathroom was refreshed with new towels, the bed was maid, our clothes hung in the closet. It is definitely worth the extra money to stay in the Lio'lio room. In the evening water and chocolates were left by our bedside. The evening wine hour was one we didn't want to miss. The wine was fantastic and the appetizers were delicious- seared ahi tuna, cheeses, olives, etc. Our host, the son-in-law of the owner, was gracious and helpful providing guidance for things to do. The women who prepared breakfast each morning were also always so friendly and nice. Breakfast was always something delicious incuding fresh tropical fruit, homemade rolls, croissants, special omelettes. I have never felt more relaxed than when we stayed here. On our last day we were already planning when we would be able to come back and visit this wonderful B and B again.

Well I've used the reviews on trip advisor many times in the past and found it very useful so I thought it was time to write my own review of this gorgeous b&b on hawaii.
We stayed here for 3 nights after having been at the mauna lani resort for the previous 3 nights. We felt like we had arrived in paradise when we drove up - the gardens, the building and the furnishings are so beautiful. This place is far superior to any of the large hotels I have visited, including the mauna lani which we liked at the time until we came to this b&b. In fact, the manager that was working at the b&b when we arrived used to work as a manager at the mauna lani herself. The service is very personal, not like at the larger hotels. When we arrived we got in the jacuzzi which we had all to ourselves until it started to rain (as it was for most of our stay there - tip, go to the kona coast when you want to get away from the rain which was 20 degrees warmer) so we went back o our room which was so cosy and started the fire in our room until we were toasty warm (i didn't think we would ever need to light a fire in hawaii!). There are a huge selection of dvd's to watch. At 5pm there is a wine hour where wine and snacks are provided and the guests can mingle with each other and the staff and you can swap tips and stories. If you cannot make the wine hour they will leave wine and snacks in your room for when you get back. If you want to stay in and don't want to eat out there is a selection of frozen food and an honesty bar to help yourselves. In the morning the breakfasts were huge and they were more than happy to accomodate my husband when he decided he didn't want eggs one morning, and went out of their way to prepare another delicious egg free breakfast. We visited both the volcanoes ansd the kona coast on different days from here. Both are a bit of a drive but nothing is more than 1 1/2 hours away. We also visited waipio valley and the north of the island which are very near. I would also recommend that you walk round their beatiful gardens which are full of coffee plants, citrus trees, palms etc as well as the pond which itself contain massive frogs (when you are driving in or out and it is raining watch out for the frogs that like to linger on the driveway - they don't seem too keen to get out of the way of the car). When we left the owner took our photo and emailed it to us as a souvenir for when we got back.
If we go back to the big island (and we will) we will definately return to this amazing b&b.

Forget any dowdy B+B images you may have. Wainuhea is all about style and luxury. You won't find any frilly vicotrian lace curtains or dusty knickknacks decorating this place. This place deserves to be featured in Architectural Digest magazine. We spent 2 night in the Lio'lio room and 1 night in Olu'Olu. Lio'lio is by far my favorite (I peaked into the other rooms). The Jotul gas stove, ocean views, luxurious downy soft bed, and huge 2 person tub really made it fun. It is also the most private of the rooms. Oh, and the flat screen plasma TV and DVD player is a fantastic addition. (The B+B has a dvd collection to rival Blockbuster, with new releases added all the time)

It is in a remote setting, off the beaten path to be sure. Its about an hour drive from Kona (without traffic), but you'll be rewarded by unmatched peace and serenity. For the price, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on the island.
