The outlook is 20 miles from highway 19+-. Great views from this very special place. Besides the views, the location is a sacred area, a source of seed conservation and historic homestead of many Hawaiians. The farming is part of the view, as well as, the ocean. A roadway (pedestrians) leads down to the water. it is a tough walk...water, hat, sunscreen, snack, etc. I suspect the walk is 1 hour plus, and naturally you would want to spend some time and maybe take a dip and a few pictures. There are a few benches in the shade at the top, but they were being used by one group, leaving unoccupied space unavailable! We recommend this stop.

Parking okay, but not unlimited.

If you are on this side of the island, don't miss this lookout for anything at all. Right up there with the Kalalau lookout, this will take your breath away. That being said, don't even think about driving into the valley. I docked one point because of how privatized such a natural wonder is (the valley).

Our party of 4 friends stayed in Waikoloa, on the other side of the island. However, this was one trip we wouldn't have missed! The scenery is incredible! As with all beach areas in Hawaii, there is public access. Although I'd be VERY careful about doing any swimming in this one due to the numerous rocky outcroppings. There is also, as with other beaches, picnic areas & rest rooms as well.

Had business in Honoka'a. Decided to drive out to the overlook. Been there many times, but never in the valley. On the spur of the moment decided to hike down. Great view the entire way. Easy hike down and back up, although it is steep on the way back. Beach looks better from a distance. Excellent way to spend some time in this area. Usual problem along the way with the locals being completely paranoid someone will step on their land. Highly recommend the hike down.

Went before we did a horseback tour through the valley, so beautiful! We also went back after the horseback ride for a picnic lunch with a perfect view.
