“Pleasant stay, reasonably priced”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

We enjoyed our time in Waimea and found the Kamuela Inn resonably priced, more than comfortable, centrally located and very pleasant. In fact, it was the best value for what we received during a bicycle tour of the island. There was ample parking for those with cars, the grounds were charming and there were outside spaces to enjoy. The rooms were quiet and the beds comfortable and the breakfast better than average. We would stay there again.

We had a nice stay here. It was clean in a good, central location and reasonably priced. They do a good job making your stay most enjoyable. Thie continental breakfast was good also and a good combination of standard items with some local specialties added.

This is a family run inn that is well located, well priced and has beautiful gardens yet being in the town of Waimea. If you are not a resort kind of person, this is a good choice. The prices include plenty of parking, basic breakfast and Wi-Fi (a bit unreliable). There's plenty to do in the town and around.
The rooms can be updated but there's a nice air of being in an old house including small reading corners in different places. The lovely swing on the big tree is such a beautiful touch.

Just about gets the job done in vacancy challenged Waimea.

Good sized room but definitely worn and dated. Awful bed with plastic sheeting under the sheets. Makes you wonder what's been done in there before you. Tiny TV. OK sized fridge. Bathroom adequate.

Pluses. Attractive, well kept grounds. Friendly staff. Quiet.

Major negative. The nickel and dime gouging for extras. $5/day for an electric kettle isn't the "nominal fee" described in the room blurb. It's outrageous. Likewise the fees for space heaters (this is Waimea guys; it's cold at night up here), extra towels and blankets, fans and more. I've never seen such an extensive list anywhere. Very, very irritating.

At $99 this motel would be vastly overpriced on the mainland. Being Hawaii, it would likely get an average value rating from me. The extras charges, however, cause me to downgrade it in this category.

You probably won't do better for the money locally but this shouldn't stop you from trying.

Cindra M, Manager at Kamuela Inn, responded to this review, 3 February 2014
It is unfortunate that some travelers overlook the fact that we have the best room rates in Waimea and provide free parking, free in-room wi-fi, and a very generous complimentary continantal breakfast daily. They choose instead to focus on our charges for "extras," which is what they are -- extra. It would be foolish and unfair to other guests to provide more amenities because that would necessitate increases in room rates.

The Kamuela Inn is appreciated by savvy travelers who understand the value we provide for the room rates charged.

We stayed for two nights. The bed actually was a king - that much was ok. However it was an awful bed covered with a plastic sheet and cheap sheets. Not very comfortable especially in the Hawaii heat! The "hearty" breakfast isn't very much and while the room had a mini-fridge, nothing else was included. Extra towels? Costs extra. Kettle? $5 per night (!!) extra.

The tv was tiny. The room was dated but decent. Bathroom same .. not great but passable. The bed killed it for me though .. I like decent linens. These sheets won't even stay on the crappy mattress.

One plus was the friendly staff.

We were crossing the island and stopped in Kamuela (waimea) for the night. Got an excellent room for $99 that was very comfortable. The office clerk was very friendly and helpful. Morning continental breakfast was very good. Really liked the variety of ten or fruit jellies. Very nice outside areas

Good central location and a few hundred feet off the main street. So it’s quiet. Good sleeping quality. Neat, clean place with a big, well-kept grassy front yard with a big tree and a hammock. Very pleasant reception by nice people. Good restaurants and a big shopping center and a big Long’s (CVJ) Drugstore within walking distance.

Small rooms, get a kitchenette suite, a real suite with a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed. Comfortable and super-smooth, warm blankets let you slept heavenly. Don’t expect the bed to come from some big empire but rather a small kingdom. Alright if you are in tune with your bedmate. If you ask for extra pillows, they’ll charge. That nonsense got to go.

And a fully equipped kitchenette. Big fridge, stove, microwave (which didn’t work properly) table and all. Also a separate, walled-in bed for a kid? Ideal for a low-budget small family. Toiletries: 2 small bars of soap, but lots of clean towels—from friendly maids.

No elevator, and the stairway needs a new handrail.

Continental breakfast. Whoa the best. Apparently especially whipped up by the temporary manager, Cindra. Superb Italian quiche or tasty sushi besides the regulars with a choice of 15 (!) different local jams and butters. Lots of fresh, local strawberries and other goodies.

Overall a good value for a one or two-night stay.

Room Tip: Get a kitchenette suite upstairs.
