Pineapple park was a fantastic place to stay, staff especially Annie the owner were so helpful couldn't do enough for you. Accommodation was basic but clean and tidy, excellent value I couldn't have wanted for more. Can't fault or praise enough had a great stay in ironman week which was middle of October 2012. Would highly recommend to stay here and would definitely stay again. Thanks to all the staff for a brilliant stay, Chris.

I stayed 2 nights at the Pineapple Park during the second week of October 2012. The staff is very friendly -YES they all are...- and you can rent kayak, snorkel gear, boards... I saw hostels cleaner than this place, but they are builting a new hostel, so I'm sure it's going to be great when everything will be done. I met nice people there and it's close to 2 steps where I did the best snorkelling in Hawaii. And when I was there, there was no bed bugs.

Just kidding! Hey listen up! There are a lot of reviews here that are mainly crap! The owners came to the islands to get away from stuck up main lander's that demand, demand, demand! Here it is... You can get a bunk for $30! They have nicer rooms for bigger bucks, but they specialize in a quick cheap place to sleep. If you need to be entertained during your stay, you will need to a laptop or a book. There is no lounge, only a small kitchen with a burner and frig. All of this is shared. If you are a nice person and easy to get along with, then perhaps you'll stay a while! Let you in on a secret! If you are nice to Annie, then she will like you and all will be well!
This is not a hotel, but a place to grab a nights sleep as you check out the island. They do have some rooms, I would call about them.

Room Tip: This place is clean and neat. People complain mainly about mosquito bites.

We found that there was less to do on the Kona side of the Big Island than there was on the Hilo side, but since we were flying in and out of Kona and wanted to see a few things on this side of the island, we decided to spend 2 nights at the Pineapple Park Hostel in Kona. Unfortuantely, it was the only hostel we could find outside of Hilo.

The hostel is way overpriced for what you get, which is a poor to average stay at a hostel. The dorm room was nothing special at all, the bed very uncomfortable and the owner rather unfriendly.

I would like to mention the excellent Italian restaurant just across the street though. It was wonderfully delicious and I would go there again anytime.

I just stayed here about a month ago, on my first trip to Kona. The place is infested with Bedbugs. Don't stay here, you will end up taking them home with you and spending a fortune to get rid of them. Spend a few more dollars and stay at the Manago, it is much cleaner, and the people are much nicer, and you won't take bedbugs home with you. So unless you like bedbugs, stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Get a room somewhere else

I arrived at this hostel by bus with the intention of staying two nights and ended up staying four nights. You will most likely want a rental car as it is a hike to get everywhere, unless you do not mind hitch hiking. I was able to get picked up within 5 minutes of standing by the road. Kealakekua Bay is about a 3 mile hike to one of the best snorkeling spots I've seen. You can also rent kayak's and go swim with dolphins in that bay as well. Annie is super sweet and you might get to catch an NFL game with her. Do not come here if your looking for a party hostel, but rather somewhere to relax and enjoy the vast patio and outdoor space that is provided!

I stayed a week at Pineapple Park and couldn't have done better! Annie was very kind, and the 3 musketeers - Nate, Gabe and Bob - made sure to help me find my way around the island!
Thanks, guys, you've been awesome! I would recommend this hostel any time!
