The staff here are friendly and knowledgable and the are very helpful if you are an experienced kayaker renting a kayak to go out exploring on your own.

Our B&B's owner recommended Kona Boys for a half day kayaking and snorkeling trip in the bay where the legendary Captain Cook visited and met his demise. We took a chance and booked an afternoon trip which is when the visibility could be iffy but far fewer people, which we prefer.
We really lucked out! Their were only two couples, including ourselves, and our very informative guide, AJ. The kayak trip over to the Captain Cook Monument was an easy paddle. The toughest part was getting in and out of the kayaks, so wear water shoes! AJ shared Hawaiian history about the bay as we leisurely paddled to the other side where we snorkeled. I am a diver and have enjoyed some beautiful water experiences, but I must say this was fantastic snorkeling. You will snorkel in a shallow reef abundant with coral and colorful fish. If you want to be more daring, you can swim out to the edge of the reef and look down into the deep blue sea to possibly see bigger sea life. The land around the monument is off limits to all but a few companies, and Kona Boys is lucky to be one of those companies. Also, their equipment is in great condition. The company is very safety conscience, so wearing a life jacket is not an option. I would definitely do this trip again!

We booked a 3 hour kayaking tour of K Bay and the Captain Cook monument. IT WAS AWESOME! Our guide, AJ, was very well versed on the history and culture of the Big Island, especially with respect to K Bay and the story behind the demise of Captain Cook. Also, as this was our first time ocean kayaking, AJ explained the ABC's of kayak safety and operation extremely well. We were also fortunate as we saw spinner dolphins coming and going from the monument. The snorkeling at the monument was incredible as well.
Thanks AJ and Kona Boyz.

Kayaking Kealakekua Bay
This company is experienced, well organized and places a high value on their customers' safety and satisfaction. They do whatever they can to make your experience memorable. We arrived at their shop at 7am where they outfitted us and the others on our tour with snorkel gear and footwear. They explained what to expect and we all drove our cars down to the foot of Napo opo o Road. The crew instructed us on safety and rules of the bay and helped us launch our kayaks. They carried lunches, drinks and a full first aid kit including defibrillator.

We are not in shape but found the kayaking a breeze. Our guides regaled us with fun facts and historical tales drawn from the history of the bay as we crossed.

Once near the Captain Cook Monument they had an organized process to get each kayak ashore without damaging any coral. We walked a short distance to our swimming spot and they made sure our gear was working well and we had everything we needed.

After a few minutes in the water my mask leaked and my eyes began stinging badly. Seeing I was having a tough time, Chad swam back to shore and called to AJ to toss him a water bottle so I could wash my eye out while treading water! That's service!

The snorkeling in the bay is unbeatable. When we'd been out for more than an hour we swam back to shore and had yummy sandwiches along with ice cold water. Then we made our way back to our kayaks and, once launched, kayaked back to the foot of Napo opo o Road where they helped us beach our tired selves safely. They are a tad more expensive than some of the other companies, but from what we could see of the others, we had chosen well. I recommend them highly.

We took Kona Boys' kayaking and snorkeling tour of Kealakekua Bay, and were extremely pleased. The guides (Chad and AJ) were knowledgeable and safety-minded, yet also laid back and friendly. There was plenty of time to snorkel and just soak up the place and the experience. We did not feel rushed at all. The snorkeling was the best we did during our trip. The kayaks felt very stable and easy to paddle, much better than we expected of plastic kayaks.

The next morning we went to their other sight in Kailua-Kona to rent kayaks. One of our guides happened to be on duty there for the day and treated us like he was really happy to see us and took great care of us.

We highly recommend Kona Boys for both tours and rentals.
