We took the midday meander with Chad. We kayaked and snorkeled in the Kaelakekua Bay and it was one of our favorite activities while on the Big Island. Chad was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Hawaii. He was an excellent guide while on the kayaks and in the water snorkeling. While kayaking, we saw numerous schools of dolphins and even spinner dolphins jumping around having a good old time. While snorkeling, Chad did an awesome job of guiding us and pointing out the various fish, eel, star fish, etc. At first we were afraid that the weather wouldn't cooperate since we were going out in the afternoon, but it turned out perfect. The sun was out and we had a fabulous time.

We highly recommend Kona Boys for kayaking and snorkeling. My husband went on the 1/2 morning trip and were lucky enough to get Chad as our guide - and we had him all to ourselves! He was very knowledgeable, friendly, professional and fun! It was my first time snorkeling and Chad was very patient with me. The snorkeling at the Captain Cook monument was unbelievable! When we come back to Kona, we will come back to Kona Boys!

The staff here are friendly and knowledgable and the are very helpful if you are an experienced kayaker renting a kayak to go out exploring on your own.

Our B&B's owner recommended Kona Boys for a half day kayaking and snorkeling trip in the bay where the legendary Captain Cook visited and met his demise. We took a chance and booked an afternoon trip which is when the visibility could be iffy but far fewer people, which we prefer.
We really lucked out! Their were only two couples, including ourselves, and our very informative guide, AJ. The kayak trip over to the Captain Cook Monument was an easy paddle. The toughest part was getting in and out of the kayaks, so wear water shoes! AJ shared Hawaiian history about the bay as we leisurely paddled to the other side where we snorkeled. I am a diver and have enjoyed some beautiful water experiences, but I must say this was fantastic snorkeling. You will snorkel in a shallow reef abundant with coral and colorful fish. If you want to be more daring, you can swim out to the edge of the reef and look down into the deep blue sea to possibly see bigger sea life. The land around the monument is off limits to all but a few companies, and Kona Boys is lucky to be one of those companies. Also, their equipment is in great condition. The company is very safety conscience, so wearing a life jacket is not an option. I would definitely do this trip again!

We booked a 3 hour kayaking tour of K Bay and the Captain Cook monument. IT WAS AWESOME! Our guide, AJ, was very well versed on the history and culture of the Big Island, especially with respect to K Bay and the story behind the demise of Captain Cook. Also, as this was our first time ocean kayaking, AJ explained the ABC's of kayak safety and operation extremely well. We were also fortunate as we saw spinner dolphins coming and going from the monument. The snorkeling at the monument was incredible as well.
Thanks AJ and Kona Boyz.
