“Peaceful, Secluded, and Inspirational Wonderland!”
Reviewed 9 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Connie's cabin is absolutely sublime! My husband and I stayed for a week's vacation and every part of the experience was perfection. Upon booking, Connie reached out immediately to confirm and send detailed directions from Kona. At check in, she was so warm and welcoming, giving a full tour of the cabin's facilities and offering help by just a phone call away if we needed it. We never needed to call because she was so thoroughly informative at the first meeting. She respected our privacy for the rest of our stay and we got to imagine that this little paradise was all ours for the week. The cabin's location in Naalehu is secluded and very private, accessed by a drive through a gorgeous tropical jungle-like garden on the property. As a launching point, it's ideally located for day trips in each direction, whether it be Captain Cook to the northwest, Southpoint and Green Sands Beach to the south, and Volcano National Park, Hilo, and Puna to the east. It's well worth mentioning that the very popular Punalu'u bakery is only 15 minutes away, so it's likely that every morning will begin with a malasada or two :) The piece-de-resistance is, of course, the cabin itself. It really is the perfect get-away and every feature of the space is a representation of the care and mindfulness of its owner. The cabin is entirely off the grid: electricity is solar, water is from a rain catchment, and the stove is propane. Each installation is an example of how excellent and plentiful these resources are. I was amazed at the solar reserves' responsiveness to the sun. Hot water is on-demand and never runs out; I had a wonderfully hot shower every morning. We cooked every dinner on the propane stove and made incredible coffee on the french press. There is no wifi, but cellular services reach there and I was able to occasionally check the internet. There's a TV and DVD player with a wide and really quality selection of movies - we watched "Broken Flowers", "What the Bleep Do We Know", "The Prestige", and "Bruce Almighty"...there's something for everyone. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of fresh linens. We spent every night talking on the patio deck which is surrounded by a nice sized grass area (perfect for morning yoga) and a lovely tropical landscape humming with crickets and local birds. I could go on and on but instead I'll say that, above all, I found Connie's cabin inspirational with the spirit of mindfulness and creativity evident in every nook.

“Wonderful place to unwind!!”
Reviewed 13 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We loved staying in the cabin! It was so relaxing to look out the big windows and see the beauty of the rain forest, birds, etc. Connie is very helpful, and set the cabin up so that it is very easy to just walk in, put a few groceries in the fridge, and get going on your vacation! It was under an hour to drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and we went there a couple of times (since your admission gets you in for a week). The nearby towns had groceries and restaurants, so services were not very far away. Our only complaint: the queen bed is HARD! We realized the mattress was set on a wooden platform, so it wasn't very soft when it was missing the box springs. My poor husband had to sleep on the recliner.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. I do my best to make it as comfortable as I can for my guests. I'm surprised you and your husband thought the bed was hard. I've never had anyone complain about it before. I'm so sorry your husband had to sleep on the recliner!

“Clean, comfortable, sustainable - PERFECT!!”
Reviewed 7 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

My boyfriend and I stayed in this wonderful little cottage for three nights while we wandered the south part of the island. Some perks: private, located IN a beautiful rainforest, collects and filters rain water, completely solar powered, well stocked (soap, shampoo, dishes, condiments, towels), CLEAN, very reasonably priced, and last but not least, the owner (Connie). I will absolutely contact Connie if I'm ever in the area again and definitely recommend this great little gem in the rainforest.

Off the grid and the beaten path on the Big Island of Hawaii, lies this secret jewel of a cottage. In the jungle of Hawaii, this cottage relies on catchment water, and solar power.. The system worked very well, without leaving one to think you'd abondoned civization. The owner is a most gracious hostess, helping with suggestions when needed, and allowing maximum privacy the rest of the time. The cottage back yard adjoins the new state park, so you feel like you've rented 10,000 acres. Food and entertainmentis fairly close by. My all time favorite place to stay on the big island.

Connie was very helpful and the cabin was great! The land behind is a State preserve so there is nobody behind you. Halfway between Hilo & Kona made it central located and right near the black sand beach.

“Quiet, off the grid cabin”

The setting is very peaceful and away from the road noise. The owner has spent a of of time gardening the long driveway in. We enjoyed being surrounded by nature. The cabin is light and airy with lots of windows. No WiFi but our one verizon phone had 4g and AT&T had barely any service. With the stand alone cabin it is on a battery bank system which provided ample power, though we didn't bring a hair drier along. The cooking facilities are more than adequate without an oven and the dishes/cookware were new and complete. This would be a great jumping off point for South Point/Green Sands as its just across the road with 2 nice grocery stores 7 miles away. Connie, the owner and long time Big Island resident is helpful and very pleasant.
