We just returned from a wonderful stay at Hamakua Ranch House. Fantastic! If you want to experience a side of the Big Island that many people never get to see, you should stay here. The Hamakua Ranch House is a luxurious bed & breakfast in a gorgeous "up country" setting. From our room we could gaze over acres of beautiful ranch land to the ocean. Our room (the Mermaid) was really comfortable, super clean, and well appointed. Tim & Terri were fantastic hosts who go out of their way to make you as comfortable as possible. This is a great place to stay if you want to just relax or as a perfect "base camp" to explore the Big Island due to it's relatively central location between Hilo (and Volcanoes National Park) and the Kona coast. There's nothing better than coming back at night and relaxing around the fire with a cold drink and watching the incredible starlit sky. (Some of the world's premier observatories are just a few miles away atop Mauna Kea -- which you can see from the ranch house.) We have to agree with the other reviewers that Terri's breakfasts are delicious -- super fresh and made from local island ingredients. Can't wait to go back!
