“Manicured garden and private villa in a jungle retreat with the best breakfasts we've ever had!”
Reviewed 16 November 2010

Cindy and Rick go all out to make your stay perfect, offering you a beautiful space with your own huge screened lanai and open porch, use of beach mats, umbrellas (handy for passing showers) and ponchos (perfect for hiking in Volcano NP!), masks and snorkels (reef and turtle viewing musts), and the most gorgeous and delicious breakfasts you can (or can't!) imagine, featuring lots of (mostly organic) tropical fruits and other gourmet dishes.
With only one guest unit, Ohia House gives you the idyllic "Private villa in the Hawai'ian jungle" experience, with night serenades of frogs, insects, birds and rain-showers, tree-filtered sunrise light and much more. And their travel/tour advice is well researched and spot on.
NOTE: If you want to experience lava flow up close, this is the perfect base for doing a walking tour from End of the Road; our November 2010 experience was that of a lifetime!

Reviewed 20 October 2009

We stayed here around October 16. This location is amazing because the volcano national park is just 20 miles away, the lava viewing area and the tide pools were within 7 miles and Hilo is about 40 min. We came to this island for a short time and primarily for the volcano so location-wise this place was perfect for us. The breakfasts were sumptuous. Cindy is a darling and made for us, croissants, dutch baby (bakery delicacy haha) and also served really awesome variety of fruits.. She is an encyclopedia of big island, so we chatted with her every morning before heading off and she and her books (The big island revealed) were quite informative. Really if you are staying here, you wont need snorkeling gear or heavy duty flashlights or umbrellas... or a guidebook. She's got it all. The rooms were fine. No AC (trust me..one is not needed)..and no microwave (but that she will fix). Beautiful lanai. Soft music and exquisite collection of orchids, mellow aloha music, tall Ohia trees, chirping birds and the smell of freshly baked goodies is what you can expect on any beautiful morning at Rick and Cindy's B&B.
