We stopped here with Nui Pohaku Adventure trips at the end of our amazing Sunset Lava Walk day before heading to Kilauea that evening. We pre ordered our food earlier in the day for the 5 of us and our guide, Shawn. We were greeted by a lovely young lady that told us our tables were ready as we arrived. She sat us in the former KFC that was decorated with local Hawaiian photos and items. The ladies were very busy as the restaurant was full (it was Valentine’s Day!) and they were cooking up some very aromatic dishes! Though its a former fast food restaurants, they had recycled and mismatched china and silverware that fit well with the overall atmosphere making it quaint and well placed. We were given our silverware in Valentine’s napkins and the entire restaurant was outfitted for the holiday! It was a surprise inside and though we were tired from a long day, it brought out many smiles from our group when we entered! My husband and I both chose the beef tips and they were meaty, juice and had very little fat; in a lovely citrus tasting bbq sauce (which I don’t usually like) but it was yummy, all served on rice. Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed our meals and before we left, they treated us to a Valentine’s treat of a caramel spice cake pop! The friendliness of the ladies and young girls who worked was the magic of this place. They treated us like we were long time friends, not a tour group of people they’d never see again. Their smiles, winks and laughter will long be remembered. Their dedication to helping the community was evident in the building. Using local farmers to create healthy meals and providing sources of where the food comes from can be found on line.
This new restaurant I hope has a long a fruitful life in the Pahoa community! All the best!
