I stayed 3 nights. It was a beautiful location, and Petra was an great host. I stayed in the studio and it was just great for someone travelling alone. Petra had many suggestions for things to do around the area, and was very welcoming. She made the stay there even better.

We had a wonderful stay at Hale Moana B&B! We stayed in the studio, which was perfect for us since we spent most time outdoors and exploring the area. The studio had everything we needed, including a small fridge and small but luxurious shower. Petra was very warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. She obviously loves Pahoa and is excited to share the local knowledge with all of her guests. Her garden is gorgeous and well maintained. Some of my best photos from our trip were taken of flora & fauna at Hale Moana. She gave us a map of the area and recommendations for local restaurants and hikes. The best part of our stay was her delicious breakfasts!!! I am vegan and she accommodated all my dietary needs, which was far beyond my expectations! She made me french toast with soymilk! There were plenty of choices, including cereal, tropical fruits and a hot breakfast. Our favorite food was the rosemary potatoes, delicious! Thank you so much for your hawaiian hospitality. We definitely recommend the Hale Moana B&B.

Partner and I stayed 3 nights at this excellent B&B. Lots of things to like here; superb accommodations, terrific location, great breakfast and a very gracious host, Petra. Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Without question one of the best B&b's we've found, and a real gem in this area.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week and it was without doubt the best thing for us. We came from a week in busy Waikiki to this amazingly quiet and beautifully set out B&B. Petra is so welcoming and helpful, we arrived late in the night yet she still was willing to give us a warm welcome and settle us into our room.
The rooms are fantastic! We stayed in the suit and it was perfect for us. A very comfortable large bed and plenty of room to keep your bags out of the way an hanging space for clothes.

The breakfast in the morning was amazing and a great relief to have such good food.

On you're first morning breakfast Petra sits down with you and gives great advice in local resteraunts and shopping and of course details of what activities to go as do. We especially reccomend the Lava walk and Ziplining.

Overall this stay at Hale Moana for us was fantastic and made experiencing the Big Island that much better.

Thank you to Petra and her family.

We spent two nights at the Hale Moana and just loved it. Petra is such a nice host and everything is perfect in the house and garden. Our room was the studio and it is very nice for two people. The bed is comfortable and at night there are these wonderful sounds outside in the garden. The garden itself is amazing, well maintained and all these flowers and trees that grow there are so wonderful. Petra serves a very good morning coffee that has a wonderful taste and smell and she makes delicious Quiche and French toast. This all comes with fresh fruits and makes the breakfast complete. In the morning Petra sits to all her guests and ask them if she can help with their itinerary or how they spent the last days. She suggested us some nice spots nearby so we spent an unforgettable day with snorkeling, swimming and the hike to the lava. This hiking experience was just awesome and the best thing we did during our trip. So we won't forget the lava and the we won't forget Petra's place that we recommend to all of you who are intend to travel to Pahoa.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hale Moana B&B. The suite was perfect, the breakfasts were excellent, and our host, Petra, was absolutely charming. The garden is beautiful, the neighborhood is quiet and it's a reasonable driving distance from the Volcanoes National Park.

My wife and I stayed in the Garden Suite near the end of our honeymoon, and loved it - even more than the two resorts we stayed at earlier. When we arrived, Petra greeted us, gave us local restaurant recommendations, asked if we have any dietary restrictions, and walked us to our room.

The Room: The Garden Suite is amazing. We had a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, all of which was spotless and looked newly redone. The TV has dish service, and having a stovetop and microwave allowed us to save a lot of money on food. Petra also stocks the room with nearly every supply you may have forgotten.

The Bed: The mattress is a little on the firm size and you can choose from a couple of different pillows. I am used to a memory foam pillow and can't sleep well in hotels with really thick pillows, while my wife is the opposite. We both found pillows we liked and I slept like a rock - best rest of the 2.5 week trip. As I have seen in other reviews, the frog's are loud, but it's pretty much white noise and you can thank Walmart for bringing them to the island.

The Breakfast: My wife really wants your French Toast recipe. Breakfast places are pretty big in our area, and I grew up in a chef's house, but that was the best French Toast we have ever had. The breakfast has fruits from the property, juice, toast, cereal, coffee, and an entree. The three days we stayed at Hale Moana, the breakfast entrees were banana pancakes (fabulous), french toast (see above), and scrambled eggs with ham (good). Petra also gave us a book of the area and pointed us towards many sites to check out during our stay.

All in all, a fantastic stay and a phenomenal host. We would definitely stay at Hale Moana again.
