This house is in a very good location. It is near several parks with good snorkeling and hot pools, as well as not far from Volcano National Park. It is also downhill from Leilani Estates and on the same rift zone as the current lava flows. The parks are currently closed due to volcanic activity. The main road to the house is cut off by cracks and lava, and the way in and out is through a tsunami zone. Since water is cut off, there is a water truck in the neighborhood. Thousands lost electricity, but some has been restored.
You will have to get your news on the Internet, because there is no radio, and the owners do NOT subscribe to any news stations. We liked the house, except for thr roaches, and washed each dish before using it. blocks away.
We were driven out by warnings and VOG after only half our paid days, and the owners from California refused to return any money, because Civil Defense did not come to our door and force us to leave. They just scared us to death. The sulphur dioxide in VOG when it contacts water, such as is found in your lungs, mouth, nose, throat and eyes. People are wearing masks. When sulphur dioxide contacts rain, it produces acid rain. We really like the area and will return, but not to that house. I asked the owners to warn others, but I am not sure they did, so I am trying, but it has been a week, and I have not seen my review.
You do not want to take your family here now.
Clean, well equipped vacation home in an ideal location. Perfect amount of amenities to serve our needs.
We absolutely loved the Kapoho Champagne Pond house. Beautifully appointed with all details thought of. Especially relaxed waking to Ohia forest birdsong, morning coffee on the upstairs lanai while enjoying the rising sun and ocean views. House can comfortably accommodate two couples or a family. The community is very serene with beaucoup peace and nature including nighttime singing frogs. Equidistant from Hawai'i Volcanoes NP and Mauna Kea for hiking enthusiasts like us. Even made it to South Point for Green Sands beach hike. Kapoho Tidal pools just a short drive down road for other-worldly snorkeling. And we loved our afternoon at Kehena Beach, bit further drive but well worth. The owners were very responsive before our arrival and easily reachable when there, though there was no need.
