We travelled with 2 small kids and the room worked for us very well. It is a good choice for those interested in lava flow trips, but also convenient if you want to visit the Volcano National Park. The house is as you see it on the picture, classic style, the owner is very friendly and expect good communication. I would not go there without a car or bike as it is residential area and for shopping or dining you rather need to go elsewhere. But, if you do not mind preparing breakfast/dinner for yourself then the room has a kitchenette allowing you to do so.
Indeed, there is a very nice beach very close, although we went there only for short fun for kids (the black sand).
As notified by the owners, there is very weak or none cellular signal at this location so make sure you know the location very well before you get there. We found the location on offline map on our smartphone and were able to easily find the house based on it. Anyway, the owner was so nice to wait for us on the street having us call him approx. 15 mins earlier as we were approaching. And it was 11 p.m. so it was helpful and nice.
There was also another family in the house at the same time as AFAIK they were also very satisfied.
My friend Claudia and I stayed 5 nights at this location. It is very far away (about 12 miles) from any bigger city or groceries but it is very worth staying there as you pass the place where lava flows into the water (at least it was so when we visited Pahoa).
Also a great location to visit the volcano national park, tide pools and nice beaches around.
The room was very clean, there are two king size beds which are very comfortable. The neighborhood is calm, people very nice and helpful, the host is good to communicate with.
Nice place just off the red road. Accommodations were comfortable. Everything you need. Studio apartment setup. Check out uncles at the end of 137 for good food and entertainment. Lot's of great spots to stop nearby for scenic outlooks. Also near warm ponds.
