Owner description: The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

“Gorgeous”

I love this botanical garden. Yes, it cost the two of us $30 to gain entrance, but it was well worth the expense (and I'm not all that much into plants and flowers). The walkway is well maintained and paved, the flowers shrubs and trees are generally well marked, there is a terrific waterfall, it is fascinating and informative, and above all, it's just gorgeous! There is a nice over-view of the ocean and there are several very nice, informative story placards that make a good connection to Hawaiian legends and culture. This was expensive, but I'd go back again.

“Beautiful facility.”

The grounds are beautiful. Be sure to read the information as you enter the gardens on how it got started. The walk back up the incline to the entrance gate was daunting for the elders in our party, but other than that, was an easy 1.25 mile stroll.

“Small garden of Eden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

You can spend a leisurely couple of hours walking through this beautiful park. It is full of luscious rainforest and exotic flowers. It is easy to walk with twists and turns leading you to little lakes, streams and ocean views. The ocean view path is not so easy to find. You have to go past a sign that suggests you are crossing into a closed-off area, but follow the map and just go for it. And look out for the parrots, who will call Goodbye when you leave them. I totally recommend visiting this beautiful place.

Most awesome of any Botanical Garden on the Big Island of Hawai'i!!

If you love tropical flowers, your jaw is going to drop to your knees.

It is past awesome.

Mosquitoes can be an occasion issue...they sell a little repellent pack at the check in.

“Marvelous beauty”

The ground are well tended and are striking! The vast variety of plants make this well worth the trip. And be sure to walk all the way to the back...the shoreline vistas are fantastic.

I'm glad we live in the age of digital cameras because it would cost a small fortune to develop and print the number of photos we took if they we from a film camera.

Our Hilo day was quite rainy - but that didn't disrupt a visit to the garden...they provide umbrellas free of charge for use while exploring the grounds.
