We stopped here on our drive from Kilauea to Kona. It was well worth the stop. The gardens were beautiful, with many unique species of plants and scenic waterfalls. The only downside on our visit was the weather. Be prepared for rain. Although it was clear when we started the tour, it was pouring by the time we finished -we carried ponchos with us, so it wasn't a problem.

I love this botanical garden. Yes, it cost the two of us $30 to gain entrance, but it was well worth the expense (and I'm not all that much into plants and flowers). The walkway is well maintained and paved, the flowers shrubs and trees are generally well marked, there is a terrific waterfall, it is fascinating and informative, and above all, it's just gorgeous! There is a nice over-view of the ocean and there are several very nice, informative story placards that make a good connection to Hawaiian legends and culture. This was expensive, but I'd go back again.

The grounds are beautiful. Be sure to read the information as you enter the gardens on how it got started. The walk back up the incline to the entrance gate was daunting for the elders in our party, but other than that, was an easy 1.25 mile stroll.

You can spend a leisurely couple of hours walking through this beautiful park. It is full of luscious rainforest and exotic flowers. It is easy to walk with twists and turns leading you to little lakes, streams and ocean views. The ocean view path is not so easy to find. You have to go past a sign that suggests you are crossing into a closed-off area, but follow the map and just go for it. And look out for the parrots, who will call Goodbye when you leave them. I totally recommend visiting this beautiful place.
