“Perfect Country Cottage”
Reviewed 2 October 2008

The Volcano Teapot Cottage so exceeded our expectations! It's set on a lush and very private piece of property in Volcano village, only about a mile from the Volcano National Park. The cottage has its own hot tub in a separate adjacent "hut". The cottage was decorated with interesting antiques and fresh flowers, and had everything you could possibly want to make a pleasant stay. The kitchen was stocked with an unbelievable array of food---for example, not just one type of coffee but about a dozen to choose from, plus probably several dozen teas. The frig had fresh pineapple, papaya, eggs, bacon, sausage, several different tropical juices, yogurts, bagels, salad dressings, etc., and was restocked daily. During the day the cottage was cool and pleasant with the windows open, and at night the propane-fueled fireplace provided ample heat. Hosts Bill and Antoinette have made this cottage the epitome of a vacation getaway. Everything was absolutely perfect. We travel a lot and have stayed in many different hotels and B&Bs, and this is undoubtably the best cottage/B&B we've ever seen! We could only stay for two nights but loved it so much we wish we could have have stayed longer. This is THE place to stay if you are visiting the Volano National Park or Hilo (only 35-40 minutes away.)

This review is long over due since we stayed at the cottage for a week in May. Pretty much everything about this amazing place has been said in the countless reviews and there is a reason it has a 5 of 5. What I want to stress the most about staying here is the amazing service Bill & Antoinette will give you. It really feels like you are staying at a relatives house with the care and warmth they give you. All the information you about the island and where to eat and go is all available. The cottage is cozy, clean, private, and enchanting. The grounds are also extremely well maintained and the hot tub outside is very romantic at night. I was surprised how stocked the fridge is everyday and Bill replenish and have something different each day for you so it's not just the same thing. They also high respect your privacy and will re-stock the fridge and anything else that needs to be done while you are out I really have never had a better experience staying anywhere else and hope to return one day to this amazing cottage!

(Quick trip idea that I highly recommend is to take a tour of the Sharky's Coffee Company farm in Puna. It is family owned and operated and has truly the best coffee on the entire island at great prices.)

We'd give just about anything to be there right now. After a long trip, the sight of our cottage just took our breath away. Any pictures you may see on computer or in magazine does no justice to this exquisite and beautiful property that is all yours for the time you are there. Everything was so clean and felt so comfortable, like home but better. The owners, Bill and Annette take such great care of their property as well as their guests. Even though we were in beautiful Hawaii, I had a hard time leaving the cottage in the morning and was excited to get back to it at the end of the day where surprises of fresh fruit, breakfast foods and exquisit treats you can only find in Hawaii awaited us. We were spoiled! The grounds are gorgeous! Your in the middle of a rainhforest with paths for you and you alone to travel throughout the property. Buddhas and tea cups along with other trinkets are hidden around the trails for decoration. The hot tub is awsome! On a beautiful deck, this hot tub offers everything you'd want in a private hot tub! Jet settings and even multi colored lights settings along with a dimmer for the deck. Every room in the cottage, every space around the cottage, everything about the cottage including the scents and the sounds was just too perfect wich made our departure all the more painful. We couldn't have asked for a more phenominal honeymoon experience. And we are most thankful for it. We could go on and on about the beauty of this place. We can't recomend it highly enough!

Just got back from our fourth trip to the Big Island, and our fourth stay at the TeaPot Cottage (we wouldn't visit the Big Island without staying there--we plan our trips around it's availability) and it was as wonderful as always. The cottage has every comfort imaginable provided, glorious and delicious breakfasts, snacks, teas and coffees, is maintained in spotless condition, and Bill and Antionette really go the extra mile to make sure we are well taken care of (Antionette provided us tickets to the orchid show in Hilo, which we had not heard about, and it was terrific!). We enjoyed visiting the volcano again (the ocean entry is exciting to watch), bought some great wine at the Volcano Winery, hiked some trails we had never been on before (Lava Trees state park is cool), and enjoyed the Thurston Lava Tube once again, despite three buses of tourists arriving at the same time! The TeaPot Cottage is such a wonderful and peaceful retreat to return to after a busy day of hiking and sightseeing, and the privacy and quiet is a true blessing as well. Bill and Antoinette have always been so kind and respectful to us--they give great advice about places to go and things to do, without being pushy or intrusive, and it is easy to tell that they love helping visitors enjoy the Big Island and their wonderful TeaPot Cottage. The teapot theme is fun, the large landscaped yard keeps getting better and better (more trails and spots to sit and relax and enjoy the flora and fauna of a beautiful rain forest--they have bamboo and it is gorgeous), and they provided the best breakfasts (enough for a family of 8!) we had on the whole Island. We are so glad we chose the TeaPot Cottage on our first trip to Hawaii, and have loved it on every subsequent trip--it feels like a home away from home for us, only it might be decorated better than our house...I can't recommend it highly enough--I wish TripAdvisor had a 10 rating, rather than just 5, because the TeaPot Cottage is by far one of the best B&Bs we've EVER stayed in (and we try to only stay in B&Bs when we travel, rather than hotels or condos--we enjoy the privacy, quiet and flexibility so much more). In every way, staying at the TeaPot Cottage was a pure delight!

  • Liked — Very comfortable, beautiful surroundings, peaceful and romantic
  • Disliked — We liked everything about this place---wouldn't change a thing, except stay there longer next time.

The Volcano Teapot is our home away from home, but better. First of all, you have a cottage to yourself amongst tree fern and ohi'a forest, covered in beautiful flowers. A winding path leads to your private hot tub in the woods separated from the house. Further back on the property, which extends quite a ways, are footpaths which are basically a jungle nature walk out your back door.
The cottage itself is stocked with delicious breakfasts--we've had fresh baked banana bread, a variety of coffee cakes, a quiche--in addition to eggs, sausage, yogurt, juice, coffee, and of course, teas. As the theme of the cottage, something tea-like appears in every room, threatening to be too cute; but for us, it is just a little cozier that way.
One of the best features of the Teapot is its proximity to Volcanoes National Park--about 5 minutes from the front gate if you drive slowly. You can make nightly visits to the see the eruptions since the park is open 24 hours, and come back for a hot tub, a movie from the big collection of DVDs, and a little fire in the franklin stove.
This is our second stay at the Teapot, and we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Volcano.

  • Liked — Comforts of home and proximity to Natural Beauty
  • Disliked — too many great things to do, can't stay long enough

We spent 4 days at the Volcano Teapot in August 2008.

While we took a long route to get here, flying into Kona, we were absolutely delighted when we arrived. I expect flying into Hilo would have been a better idea!

The cottage is located on a very private (and large) garden property within a few minutes drive of the restaurants and stores in Volcano Village - but on a back road, well away from traffic and any noise other than that of the forest.

We were on honeymoon and had spent the previous couple of weeks in resorts on Maui and Kaui. So after near overdose of busy hotels, it was wonderful to have the cottage all to ourselves.

The owners have taken great care to fit the cottage out to a very high standard with every facility one could need for a romantic, quiet or relaxing getaway - a full kitchen, laundry, heating, private outdoor hot tub, fresh linen, TV/DVD (+movie collection), very comfortable furnishings and a beautifully tended forest garden with plenty of both sunny and shady spots to relax in. With the careful attention to detail taken, we felt immediately at home and secure from the moment we arrived.

We found it a wonderful experience to have stayed here and cannot fault any aspect of our stay; the owners visited each day in our absence to replenish our breakfast supplies etc and also made themselves available to assist with their local knowledge and had the cottage well stocked with literature for excursions.. We took two trips from the cottage to visit the Volcano park and also view the lava entering the ocean at Kanapala; both very worthwhile. The local restaurants were also worth eating at.

We thoroughly recommend it.

For this trip to the Big Island we decided to do something different.

All of our trips include Volcano, but this time it was first place we headed. The Teapot was exactly what we needed. After 2 days there we no longer knew what day it was. This was the perfect way to begin our vacation.

We have been to the Big Island about 10 or 12 times, and this was the first time we've stayed at the Teapot, but it definately won't be our last.
