We spent 3 nights here because of the proximity to Volcanoes National Park just a mile away. Our room was at the second site close by. It was cool, a bit dripping from the trees, and very quiet. The view from the corner window is amazing, we were in the rain forest. The bed and bath were fine and the wifi worked. I usually want a balcony but the corner window room was excellent. It was like being outdoors but with the comfort of inside. Complimentary breakfast is served in the main location. The room is all windows so the rain forest is right there. Breakfast was just-baked banana bread and succulent mango halves filled with yogurt, pineapple, nuts, and sliced bananas. And, in the Hawaiian way, leave your sandals outside before entering. We had a special and memorable stay at the Volcano Inn.

Room Tip: The corner window rooms for the rain forest experience. And, multiple nights are discounted.

Two couples stayed here for two nights. We both were enchanted with our rooms. On arrival we had a really warm welcome by I think her name was Lisa.??? She was very kind and sweet and answered many questions. The rooms we stayed in were on a different street. We walked down a short , stone path to the building that had just the two rooms. The rooms were not large, but they were adequate. The windows in the corner gave the room a larger feeling. The hot tubs were open to use late early in the morning, but be sure to bring a flashlight along with you.

Before making reservations I had read a review about the signs. Those NO SHOES signs and you MUST empty the dehumidifier were in contrast to the warm feeling we got from the place.
The only con was we had to be up early before the kitchen had breakfast and we wished they had offered us something we could have gotten the night before and put in our fridge . Would we stay here again? certainly!

We spent one night at the Volcano Inn when we visited the volcano national park a week ago. We were amazed at how nice this inn was! We had the "Volcano" room, which was at the main location but a short drive away. It's a room on the second floor of the building which has a first floor unit as well. The building was surrounded by tropical plants and flowers, very nice. Our room was very clean and large, with a king bed and a twin bed, a fireplace (or wood stove), a dehumidifier, TV, DVD player, kitchenette, etc. The bathroom was comfortably large, with a towel warmer. The water pressure of the shower was very good. We loved everything there, with only one little regret, which was the room somehow smelled a little musty. All the windows were closed when we got in, so we opened them and turned on the ceiling fan. This cooled down the room but did not get rid of the smell. Later we turned on the dehumidifier but that did not help too much either. Maybe it's because the room had not been occupied recently? Not sure. We love the inn despite that. We want to go back next time and maybe try a different room.

Breakfast at the main building was lovely! Fresh papaya, with yogurt and nuts, and freshly baked banana bread. Light, healthy, and delicious. This is definitely a gem!

This hotel (or inn) is absolutely amazing! My wife and I had a corner window room for two nights. The room itself is quite small with a queen bed and a decent sized bathroom. Certainly not a luxury room but the location and setting are absolutely wonderful and completely worth the price. The windows are huge with a view of lush green vegetation outside. You kind of have your own privacy in the room as it is in the corner and no other rooms can look into yours. On both days we spent most of our day in the National Park hiking, so we started with a early breakfast at the Inn. Since dining options in the park were not available during our visit (Volcano House inside the park was closed for renovation), we packed sandwiches to go from the Inn as well. Had dinner both nights at Thai Thai restaurant in the town (highly recommended). We absolutely loved this place and would without hesitation stay here again if we were to come visit Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island.

Room Tip: Get a corner window room. It is totally worth it.

Ask for the large standard "MAUNA kEA" room or comparable. On the top floor - loads of windows. Only downside is that there is no mini-fridge. The crater room is on the first floor and is more of a dorm room - don't accept it as a substitute for a large standard room. It is more of a family room - big table, fridge and sleeps 5 on the first floor. No character. Note that there's no pictures on the walls that we saw in either room - just placemats tacked up with pins. Beds were comfortable, staff pleasant, breakfast minimal. It's a very old hotel so noisy - bring earplugs.

Room Tip: third floor large standard rooms have lots of windows and a table and chair seating area.

A wonderful getaway near the Volcano! The Volcano Inn is our place of choice when we visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and the place we recommend to friends who visit us on The Big Island. Reasonably priced, spartan clean, super friendly, and exceedingly well maintained, this is a little "peace" of paradise where we have returned for over twenty years. The staff are welcoming and helpful, and the continental breakfast is excellent. Beautiful grounds!!! Large glass-enclosed dining area with sweeping views of the lush, tropical gardens. 24-hour hot tub in the middle of the tropical gardens. Enjoy the National Park, then "escape" to Volcano Inn for plenty of peace in this lovely paradise.
