Rooms are well appointed but you can hear your neighbors turn in their bed. Staff at front desk not overly friedly.. Just did the minimum. Bar staff friendly but in such a great setting they could redo the decor a bit... Microwave and server station right in there...

This was a lovely, quaint place in the middle of a lush rain forest very close to Volcano Village. The flowers all around were amazing. The hot tub in an enclosed area was a delight. For breakfast, there was good coffee, fresh fruit, cereal and rolls. This was a quiet, delightful place to stay.

After 6 nights in a Kona time share, my friend and I opted to stay at Volcano House for 2 nights. this provided a balance needed when visiting Hawaii. The location is near the volcano and the cabins are rustic but complete. The property is managed with ecology in mind. Lots of recycling and solar heating. The owners have been there since the 70's and are very accommodating but not pushy. In fact you really don't even have to anyone except to pay. I asked to print my boarding passes and I went through a barn to the owner's office. Quite an adventure. Make your own breakfast was a treat. If you want to get away from it all to write or think or get your life in balance, you can do it here.

Room Tip: The rooms are cabins and are well described on their web site.

The Volcano Guest House is close to the park so very convienent. We liked the grounds, lots of plants, quiet. My husband, son and I stayed in The Cottage for two nights, it was very spacious. The rooms were clean but kind of old and worn out. The main bed in our house was very uncomfortable, it took a couple of hours for the kinks to work out in our backs in the mornings. It had a mold, dampness issue but its in a rainforest so some of that is expected. They do a lot of recycling so that was cool.

This place didn't seem really like a bed and breakfast. I expect to spend a little time with the owners at a B & B. The owners never introduced themselves, said hello at breakfast, offered help with restaurants or activities. Its not like were were looking for new friends or anything but at least acknowledge our presence. Its kind of how you are treated in a huge hotel but none of the hotel goodies like a pool, restaurant, and excercise room. The breakfast wasn't impressive. The baked goods were stale the first day and the leftovers showed again the second day, yuck. I was a little worried about how long the food had been left out.

My daughter and I chose the Volcano Guest House out on the internet living 2,500 miles apart. (She lives in Kailua-Kona, I live in LosAngeles, CA.) The Trip Advisor was a big help in making the perfect choice.

The owners are super nice and helpful. Our Upstairs Room was as pictured only better! The pictures don't capture the roominess and "home feeling" it had. One night it was chilly but theres a portable heater to use. Our windows looked over part of the lush rain forest. One of the bedrooms and the living/dining/kitchenette windows looked over three cows grazing one morning!

The park entrance is only a few miles away and each room had laminated maps of Volcano Village, the park and the crater lookout, etc. so that made it real easy for us. We dined at Lava Rock Cafe one evening and did take-out from the same place the next, which was a good idea as it rained all night. The next morning it was crystal clear.

The Breakfast Lanai is bright and cherrie and very clean and theres plenty of fresh fruit, coffee, breads, etc. You can even cook your own eggs!

The grounds are a nice place to walk around to take pictures of the flowers.

If we return to Volcano this is where we'll stay!

Room Tip: We were told we would be going through the living room/ kitchen area. It was fine as we were prepar...

We really enjoyed our stay at Volcano Guest House. The owners were responsive to email from the very beginning, and accommodated our later check-in time. We stayed in Twin II, which was cosy, clean and equipped with everything we needed. The property was quiet and safe, and we had a lot of privacy. Breakfast was mostly self-serve, but the range of food provided was quite good, and eggs were prepared in advanced, which was a nice bonus. The location of the guest house itself is great - it was a quick drive to the park. I definitely recommend Volcano Guest House to anyone looking to spend a few days in the park.

Despite a regular drizzle each morning & evening and the Volcano NP closed due to Govn't Shutdown we certainly enjoyed our little Twin II cottage. Surrounded by lush vegetation, tiny birds flitting in the canopy and lots of fresh air it was such a nice getaway spot. Not for those who want a high-end resort style B & B, but perfect for those who appreciate the natural environment and prefer to leave a small footprint. We found the breakfast choices just fine, with papaya, local raisin-cinnamon bread, eggs, cereal and lots of coffee...which all is available all day! Not many places do that. Our only suggestion would be that the unit be warmed up prior to guests arriving when it's cold weather. We felt damp for awhile.

Room Tip: This is our second stay here. The Twin's are quite comfortable.
