There isn't more I can say that the previous reviews haven't already covered. I was excited to arrive at this property after reading the glowing recommendations. I was not disappointed! Truly relaxing, harmonious, beautiful and maintained with love by Kay. Highly recommend!

What an amazing place! A tranquil luxury retreat set within a beautiful rainforest. Idyllic and peaceful, a true paradise found. Fantastic breakfasts, incredible beds, a hot tub, and all within a mile of the national park. The highlight of our honeymoon, we wish we stayed longer!
Thanks Kay, we'll definitely be back!

Volcano Village Lodge is an absolutely amazing place, and Kay is an amazing owner and caretaker. My husband and I stayed for two days while visiting my parents in Kailua-Kona as a chance to get away on our own. Volcano Village Lodge was the perfect place to do so. We arrived as Hurricane Flossie was bearing down on the island, but Kay was helpful and informative about the whole affair. We checked in to our beautiful room - Haleakala - and the smell of white cedar greeted us. I would leave the room over and over just so I could reenter and revisit that smell.

The beds were very comfortable, so soft and luxurious, and the breakfasts we're filling. I would note that there is no cooked breakfast each morning - Kay leaves fruit and an 'entree' in the refrigerator the night before, along with juice, water, milk and yogurt. It is up to each guest to concoct their own breakfast from these makings, ie. fruit, yogurt and granola, or the cooked item, juice, etc. This isn't a hardship, and it is lovely to be able to eat your breakfast when you want to, and in privacy, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

There are four 'rooms' in all, each it's own individual hut, set in the lush landscape. All are very private (with the possible exception of the center one, Mauna Kea). There is a shared hot tub, which is reasonably private, and just fits two people.

It was a joy to wake up every morning in this beautiful, secluded, serene location. I took great pleasure in doing my yoga in our hut, as given the hurricane, it was quite rainy. After our hike in Volcano park, our dinner at Kilauea Lodge, and a separate dinner at Thai Thai, we were delighted to return to our room each evening. One afternoon (after our hike) we decided just to linger in our room, it was such a pleasure to be there. Mahalo and Namaste, Kay, for such a wonderful stay. Having stayed in many other places in Volcano over the last few years, we think we've found our paradise in paradise.

We loved this place!!

We stayed here for one night so we could explore the Volcanoes National Park which is just a few miles away.

When we arrived Kay, the owner was so welcoming. Our lodge was amazing, every little detail had been thought of. The bed was amazing! We had a TV with DVD player in our room, a table for 2 set with a lovely breakfast. The bathroom was nice with robes and slippers.

The lodges are set in beautiful grounds and it is sooooooooooo peaceful here.

The hot tub was great, really relaxing in the evening.

There are a few restaurants in Volcano village we ate at the Thai place which served wonderful food at very reasonable prices. You must have a meal here!

Wish we could of stayed longer! Would be amazing for honeymooners.

Overall: We loved it!!

My husband and I stayed in the Mauna Loa lodge in January 2007 and loved it. The whole village is so beautifully done and the gardens are kept up by local Buddhist monks. Our lodge had a separate bedroom, but we stayed in the magnificent king bed in the main room. The bed was the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in, so much so that we actually contacted Kay recently to find out what brand she used so that we could purchase one just like it. We enjoyed the hot tub, especially after our 10 mile hike throughout Volcano National Park, which is just a couple miles down the road. There are only a few restaurants in town, but we loved the Thai place—went there twice in the 3 days we were there. I must say that the blinds that cover the windows do allow you to see inside the rooms at night, which was disconcerting at first, but everyone is very respectful of each other’s privacy and it was never an issue.

  • Liked — The bed and the beautiful gardens.
  • Disliked — We found 2 roaches on our last day.

The highest compliment you can give a bed and breakfast is to let people know this is where other bed and breakfast owners come to relax. Volcano Village Lodge is delightful, a magical place to stay. Our cottage the Mauna Loa is spacious and beautifully decorated, the bed is the princess and the pea variety where you sink down in and do not want to get up. I personally loved the pull down shades that you could see out and no one can see in (i tried). Kay Lee the owner is warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable it is obvious she loves what she does. I could have stayed a week and next time perhaps I will.

The Volcano Village Lodge is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for lodging near the Volcano National Park but don't want to sacrifice the comfort of a luxury resort hotel. There are only 4 rooms in this "b and b",but each light filled "room" is essentially like a freestanding building tucked away in a rainforest setting (without bugs!). We stayed in the Mauna Loa room with our 2 children. The lodge (newly built in 2006) has an Asian feel with high end modern touches (hardwood floors, granite counters in the kitchen area, luxury linens, a towel warmer in the bathroom!). The fridge is stocked with breakfast foods on arrival (we had homemade omelets in the fridge with a fruit plate and an assortment of yogurt, cereal, juice, and other snacks) so you can eat the next morning whenever you want.

Most amazing is the sound of rain falling on the roof in the early morning with the sounds of the birds and rustling of the trees through the windows. This is a very private, beautiful, intimate setting. We were only able to stay one night as the rooms book up very quickly here but it was the perfect way to get to spend a little more time in the VNP area; I wish we could have stayed a longer. Truly a hidden gem!

  • Liked — Beautiful setting, clean and high end accomodations
  • Disliked — Nothing-loved it!
