We loved staying in the 2 bedroom apartment and it was perfect for our family of 4. It was wonderful to have a spacious kitchen and living area. The fruit and breakfast items our host provided were much appreciated as the shopping in Volcano Village is limited. It was the perfect location for our visit to Volcano National Park. The on-site lava tube was also a lot of fun and our hosts provided helmets and lights to make it easy. We can also recommend the little cafe next door!

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We arrived early and they let us leave our luggage while we continued on the visit the Volcano National Park. Only a few minutes from the National Park entrance which made it easier for us to get up early in the morning to photograph the glow of Halemaumau just before sunrise and to linger at the caldera until late at night. We liked the home made coconut macadamia nut bread and the fresh fruit. I missed out on the lava tube tour but my family enjoyed it. While we were there, the tops of the ohias tree were in bloom and were full of apapane (native birds) calling to each other.

Room Tip: if you like bird watching ask for a room on the second floor. The tops of the ohia trees are freque...

Being Located so close to Volcano National Park makes this an ideal base for activities.
Lots of little personal touches, homemade cookies, fresh fruit, breakfast in the room to make you feel welcome. Weather was terrible when we visited and we did not get to do the Lava Tube tour.
Limited options for meals nearby but on hosts recommendation we had a nice evening meal at the the Thai Restaurant close by.

The Aloha Crater Lodge is the perfect place to stay if you intend to spend time at Kilauea. Crater Lodge is the best location for a trip to Volcano National Park. It's only a few minutes drive between the lodge and the Park entrance which means popping back between hikes or squeezing in a nap is totally possible before watching the Kilauea Caldera boil and bubble after dark.
The entrance to the property is right in the ancient forest- a real treat if rainforest is a new experience and the rooms are charming. Visiting the Crater Lodge Lava Tube is amazing. A trip highlight- after walking through the Volcano National Park Lava Tube you'll be astounded at the difference. You need to be reasonably physically active to descend steep-ish ladder and confident in the dark but exploring the tube is a true wonder!

We loved the Aloha Crater Lodge! With it being so dark, we thought it would be difficulty to see, but no, just turn off the Rim Highway and go down about a quarter mile and there it is on the left. We arrived kind of late (after 8pm - we flew into Kona that afternoon, picked up the car and drove over the Saddle Road - also super easy), but the owners weren't fazed and happily showed us our room. We could park right in front, they left us with some fresh muffins and more than enough food for the three of us (husband, 7 year old, myself) for breakfast. We popped over to see "the glow" of the volcano (wow - talk about cold and windy! but my husband brought his tripod just so he could get some photos), and came back for an early night's rest in our clean room with comfortable beds. We were up early (we had big plans that day), and the owners were as well! After a yummy breakfast of juice, granola, muffins, and fruit, we were given hardhats, flashlights. and excellent directions to explore their lava tube. Which was awesome! A little tricky getting to, but just watch your footing, and you're fine. Once down there, it's awesome!! Who needs Thurston Lava tube? <G> Oh, also, the grounds are Bee-You-Tee-Ful! Total fern forest/jungle with gorgeous tropical flowers. We'll definitely be back.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful place. The location made it very convenient for us to do the lava tube tour. We appreciated their flexibility with the lava tube tour, so we were able to squeeze it in to our tight schedule.

Originally we'd wanted to stay in the Park, but glad we stayed here instead. Very comfortable beds, beautiful grounds, quiet, clean, friendly. If we'd stayed in the park we wouldn't have known about the great Lava Tube at this B&B. Dan does a great tour of it. Oh, and the banana bread with coconut is great too!
