We had a pleasant stay at the Volcano Hale. We stayed 1 night in September 2013. The Chalet is located very close to the Volcanoes National Park which was the reason why we book a night there. We liked to share a common kitchen and bathroom with some other people. We also took the breakfast there with very fresh fruits (papaya, pineapple,...)

For our 25th wedding anniversary my husband and I stayed in the Nene room for a week. With all the flowering trees and shrubs in Volcano, it feel's like staying in a remote rainforest. We loved the idea of vacationing in this beautiful country house built in 1912, we felt like invited guests at a friend's home. We walked down to breakfast at the Chalet Kilauea for the best priced continental breakfast served by friendly, happy staff. They were never too busy to pronounce correctly for us the Hawaiian names of the birds, plants and fish we saw each day. Each day we drove to different parts of the island to hike, snorkel, and eat fresh coconut, starfruit, rambutan and dragon eyes at roadside fruit stands. Volcano Hale is very close to the entrance to Volcanoes National Park. This park is open 24 hours so you can see the volcano glow at night. For dinner one night we cooked up the fish we caught off the lava rocks near Hilo in the upstairs kitchen. An unforgettable trip at reasonable rates! Thank you Chalet Kileuea!

My friends and I had our second stay at one of the houses in the Chalet Kilauea properties. We rented 3 rooms for a week and shared a common kitchen and bathroom with people from all over the world. The house is situated on the grounds of a lovely rain forest type atmosphere and only a few minutes from Volcano Park and 25 minutes or less to Hilo. The staff are friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast is good and we had a wonderful, restful vacation. Can't wait to go back again.

Booked a night here to see the volcano and was surprised to find out we had to share a bathroom with 4 other rooms! It would not have been a problem if it was disclosed during booking, nobody likes to be surprised during a vacation! Nene room was tiny and had to wait for the bathroom everytime we needed it because the shower is in there and it would take a long time for others to take a shower. Another issue is the deliberate confusion caused by the owners calling the lodges with similar names, they are trying to remove my negative post by claiming its for a different resort! Shame on you chalet kilauea! Just be honest and treat your guests right. Trip advisor, dont fall victim to their trickery and keep this post! We stopped using yelp because the reviews are not honest, keep up the good work!

Aloha and thank you for taking the time to review Volcano Hale on Tripadvisor. We are sorry to hear that your stay was less enjoyable than you expected. As for the shared bathroom concerns that you expressed in your comments, we do state this information multiple times on every website that customers use to book rooms through Volcano Hale. While the room may have been smaller than you would have liked, our budget property, Volcano Hale is offered to those guests wanting to save money on their accommodation budget, while taking the time to enjoy the quaintness and seclusion of our volcano rain-forest. For a location next to the National Park, we offer the lowest rates at Volcano Hale in comparison to what else is offered nearby and is much appreciated by guests working on a budget. Furthermore, we apologize for the confusion you may have about our property names. We have three properties that are clearly stated on all websites: Chalet Kilauea, Lokahi Lodge and Volcano Hale. Because they are all separate properties, they must have separate names, as naming them all the same thing would be confusing for most guests. As for your posting, we do not wish to remove it from Tripadvisor. We appreciate any and all comments or feedback from our guests, but we do want to give our guests the most accurate information when they are searching for accommodations. So, any reviews that may have been placed under the wrong property should be removed and placed under the correct one. Stating that a place has shared bathrooms under a hotel listing that does NOT have shared bathrooms would only stand to confuse potential guests. As you stated in your review, Tripadvisor should be kept accurate and not convey misleading information to others, whether positive or negative. Thank your for sharing your concerns have a fantastic day :) Mahalo and Aloha!!

I have stayed at Volcano Hale and at Lokili Lodge and enjoyed them both. The facilities are excellent, clean and all sorts of amenities are available to travellers like myself and my family. This time I stayed with my two daughters and we had cooking available, but ate in Volcano, Pahoa and Hilo and Kona instead, due to our travels around the island. I would recommend if you want privacy stay at Lokili lodge, if you want economy with amenities stay at Volcano Hale and the main lodge Chalet Kilauea is beauty in a rainforest. They have breakfast to die for. What a find. The BEST. Rick Bizzoco, Professor

The shared bathroom was not a problem at all. The property (rooms, bathrooms, living room, kitchen) is very clean. You can also get an excellent and cheap breakfast before you start your busy day on the trals of the Park...The only remark is about the rooms: too small for travellers that are planning to spend 2 or more weeks in Hawaii and have big suitcases.

Aloha and Mahalo for reviewing Volcano Hale on Tripadvisor. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. While I agree that for some people, the rooms are not ideal for long term stays, however, we have many guests that do utilize the rooms for up to a month at a time. We do try our best to provide a nice place to stay for people working with a lower budget, and our prices at Volcano Hale are unbeatable for the Volcano National Park area. Again, thank you for your comments and feedback and hope to see you on any future vacations on the Big Island of Hawaii.

What a great place! Fairly cheap but immaculate. Bathroom sharing was not and issue over our 3 night stay. We stayed in Lihua room- fairly small but adequate. Shared kitchen is very well equipped.... just bring along your coffee for the dripolator, and tea and other supplies. Cooking a meal was easy but we splurged and went to Volcano House for a fantastic meal one night. Food prices were good but wine was expensive. Would definitely stay here again.
