“Beach pretty but too rocky”
Reviewed 24 June 2014 via mobile

I love the shade trees and the view but not the rocky beach or floor of ocean. Not great for sunbathing. I think this would be a better place for snorkeling.

“Turtles galore”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed in the Marriott hotel so this beach is right in front. There are ponds before you get to this beach if you are coming from the hotel. There is also beach access if you are not staying in the nearby hotels. Just follow the signs. Parking is free. There are beach chairs that are scattered around that is free. It doesn't get as busy as other beaches we have been too. At night, we have seen as many as 5 turtles sleeping on the beach. Snorkeling right off the hotel is not that great. It's a good swimming beach as it doesn't get too deep and the current is not strong. If you walk towards the left of the beach, you will find yourself secluded. It's a nice spot for sunset watching. Snorkeling on the left side nearer the rocks is good. Ocean sports is there too so you can rent your gear. There is a small shack that sells snacks, drinks and shaved ice for $3. There is also the lava lava club if you want more food options.

“Great for Turtle Watching!”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We enjoyed walking on the beach and looking for turtles. The salt & pepper sand is interesting to see. The water is not very clear, There are amazing beaches with clear, blue water a short drive away, so I wouldn't recommend spending your swimming time here if you have transportation to other beaches.

“Great beach”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Great sandy beach for the Kona side of the island. Not a lot of sandy beaches on the big island. This is sandy and also had some great snorkeling spots. Beach side bar and grill conveniently located on the beach has good eats and drinks.

“One of the very best beaches on the Big Island”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

My daughter and I recently stayed at Marriott's Waikoloa Beach Resort particularly because of this beach. I can't say enough good things about this beach. The water was clear and warm with a lot of tropical fish and several sea turtles, but do go early for the best visibility. We even saw 3 turtles sunning themselves one day. What really made this beach great was that everyday we came here, there was a nice gentle breeze blowing in from the bay that made lying out in the sun very comfortable! If you are on the Big Island and want to go to the beach, this is definitely the place to go. You won't be disappointed!
