“Nice Hotel in a resort location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

This was my first time staying at this Marriott. It is a wonderful location with easy beach access and many nearby restaurants. The room was very nice with a comfortable bed. Housekeeping was very good. While the breakfast buffet was quite good, the waited service at lunch was indifferent.

We have always had the best time staying at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott. The location couldn't be better to excellent beaches, snorkeling, restaurants and shopping. The pool is large and the pool slide is a fun way to cool off! All of the hotel staff are very friendly. Amanda at the concierge desk is amazing!!! She is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful with any questions you have. She told us about some wonderful restaurants to eat at and excursion companies to go with (helicopter, manta night trip).

We stayed for 2 weeks and had an ocean view room on the 5th floor. Our first room was in one of the towers and the view was a little blocked by the trees, so they moved us and our view was perfect. After staying at this hotel over the past 10 years, the hotel is in need of refurbishment (hotel carpet, wallpaper peeling, popcorn ceiling), but the hotel rooms are clean and the beds are comfy.

We had the breakfast buffet twice. They have a wide variety of breakfast items, plus deli meats, plus steamed rice and miso soup (yum!). The lounge at night is always a good time. The bartenders have all been there for many years and it's always wonderful seeing them again! Chad and Peter are a lot of fun and they are both very knowledgeable about EVERYTHING regarding the Big Island. Evening entertainment is usually pretty good.

What's nice about this hotel is that it is very welcoming for couples, families, seniors. The swimming pool and hot tubs are open late (unlike the Hapuna Beach hotel whose pool and hot tubs close very early). Oh! If you stay here, take the Hawaiian cultural classes the hotel offers. They are outstanding! I took a lei making class and my husband and I took a weaving class. Both were excellent and a good time!

By the way...there are small refrigerators in the hotel rooms. We would pick up sodas and snacks at Island Gourmet market at Queens shops, and we also kept any leftovers we had in the mini fridge.

Aloha!

Room Tip: The "partial ocean view" rooms usually have a good view of the ocean because the hotel roo...

Everything was great for us (clean room/property, convenience to nearby food court/grocery store, etc). The only note of caution is their front desk staff Debbie is NOT very friendly (and would definitely provide you with her fake smile). We watched other front desk staffs noting nearby food amenities that were still open (we arrived at 10 pm), etc. Debbie did not do any of that. She simply gave us our cards and said aloha. I asked her about food services nearby she barely answered my question and only directed me to their onsite over-priced restaurant.

Room Tip: We had the garden view room - was great! I don't t think I'd opt for an ocean view since we...

My first trip to Hawaii was amazing! I loved the hotel. We were warmly welcomed by staff and because it was my birthday, they upgraded our room for the week. Beautiful facility, lots of activities and wonderful food.

They provide a welcome Mai Tai so we stopped by the open concept bar which overlooks the pools and ocean. The dinner special that evening was Maine Lobster for $22 so we elected to have dinner and watch the beautiful sunset.

We stayed the week - went on a helicopter tour, their luau and many trips to beaches, local farms, volcano and some shopping of course. I loved the beds - very comfortable.

It was an amazing trip and so beautiful where ever you looked. I even found the lava flows fascinating.

Room Tip: I always prefer higher level room as they are quieter - one away from the elevators and ice machines...

I watched the staff rake up each and every leaf from the grass in the morning. The pathways to the pools and beach were immaculate. The rooms were normal hotel rooms, but the view was great. The pillows were too soft, but other than that - great!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view - sit on the balcony when you are relaxing.

Green Features: Wasn't thrilled that they washed my towels that I hung up. Hate it when hotels do that.

This is our second stay at the Marriott. It is not an overwhelming large resort so you don't feel like a number or get lost trying to find something. The location is just beautiful. The royal fish ponds are at the property and it is a wonderful place to walk the grounds. We were celebrating a special anniversary and the staff made it special indeed. From surprising us with a bottle of Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on our arrival to being serenaded by the wait staff at breakfast our first morning with a special cake. We found everyone wonderful down to the pool staff. I will say the rooms are a little tired, but they are well kept. The common areas and grounds are beautifully maintained as are the pools areas. We had an ocean view room with a beautiful view of both the ocean, fish ponds, swimming pools and grounds. The rooms were checked twice daily - wet towels replaced. There are sufficient umbrellas and shady spots under trees or you can sunbathe - fresh towels are available poolside. There is a water sports center on the property as well. Only one restaurant but it offers breakfast off the menu as well as a hot or cold buffet. Lunch is served both at pool and restaurant. They offer varied dinner specials different nights of the week. The bar offers several drink specials each day as well as a happy hour. I noticed several reviewers said it was isolated but we did not find that. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance at the Kings Shops and Queens Shops. The Mauna Lani Shops and restaurants are a 5 minute drive down 19. You are almost guaranteed no rain on the Kohala Coast. We hope to return next year.

Room Tip: Higher floors afford better views.

I just loved this hotel for so many reasons... firstly the hotel is very pretty. The grounds have several pools with bridges and sitting/sunning areas. Flora and Fauna are spectacular The beds are heavenly - comfy. The prize is that it sits right on A-BAY... which is perfect for us snorkelers.
