Wow! Not only was the view spectacular, the staff was incredible and made us feel welcome! Special thanks to the most awesome ladies Nakalia and Rose, and the friendly Andrew! I also thought the food was excellent. Just happy as a clam here

I was searching for a place to stay with the quality of a 5-star hotel without the usual ostentatious surroundings that come with that. I wanted the Hawai'i experience without the tourist trap feeling of an all-inclusive resort. The Lava Lava Beach Club is less than 2 yrs. old. It's been well conceived and is very well thought out and constructed. Quality materials and execution give it a high-end feel without the kitschy marble and Las Vegas-ish stuff that large hotels seem to think is important. It's completely unique in that it's currently just three 550 sq. ft. cottages on the beach with an open air restaurant next door. It's literally 40' from the waters edge. We stayed in the one closest to the restaurant which had it's plus and minuses. First the negative: It's a busy restaurant on the beach. Like any business it has it's early morning routine with people in and out, delivery trucks and the clanking of the kitchen. Not to overstate it but we awoke first day at 6AM to the relentless sound of the vacuum cleaner being run for over an hour. Not great but we closed the windows and went back to sleep. In the evenings though we have cocktails and PuPus delivered gratis from the bar, live guitar and vocal music and a thirty second walk to dinner. We spend 4 of the five evenings there enjoying cocktails on the cottage veranda while viewing the live music 25' from our porch. The restaurant staff is young and fun and the patrons wander in for drinks and a casual meal from the Marriott and timeshare condos down the beach. Very fun atmosphere and oddly it's all over by 10PM. Very quiet at night. The bed was a comfortable king with a view out the glass frontage of the beach and reef break. In the morning you have a big decision: enjoy the outdoor shower in an enclosed patio with native plants and geckos or a waterfall shower in the travertine tiled bathroom. Both beautifully done, clean and modern. Kitchenette, in-room coffee and stocked drink fridge with water, wine and beer, all included. Beautiful original art, iPod dock for tunes, 50" flat-screen on the wall. It's a very cool place and we loved it.

Room Tip: Don't make the room next to the restaurant your first choice. It's a great room but the nois...

We stayed in 3 different lodgings while on the Big Island, and LLBC was last. Thank goodness it was, because no one else would be able to live up to it. We stayed in the cottage farthest from the restaurant. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we truly felt pampered. Yes, its expensive but so worth it - stocked fridge, breakfast plate every day, no parking charge, no wifi charge, no resort fees. And other pleasant surprises along the way that we don't want to spoil for you.The accommodations themselves are very new, extremely clean and well laid out. Comfortable bed and linens, wonderful showers (inside and out), good HVAC/ceiling fans, lovely porch to watch the world go by. You do hear the music from the restaurant at night, but it usually ends by 9:30pm. Staff is delightful. We went to the restaurant for lunch, and made reservations for dinner that evening. When we mentioned we were cottage guests, the manager overrode the reservations (as there were none available) and we ended up getting the best table in the house. We felt like celebrity guests! Beach area is lovely, and you can rent equipment at the Beach Boy shack (near the Marriott). Shops and restaurants are close by. Wish we had just stayed here the whole week. Book it!

Room Tip: stay in the cottage farthest from the hotel - quiter and less foot traffic

If you're looking for a beautiful setting with a view straight out of National Geographic central casting, combined with service excellence and food services that are 5 star quality, then this is your place! It is rare that a traveler finds all the components of a truly memorable holiday with perfect experiences in all the areas that matter. I don't believe it is a "fluke" at the LLBC. I hope to return again in the next year or two. Keep up the phenomenal work!

The entire staff is outgoing, professional and very accommodating. The menu at the restaurant is filled with fresh fishes, local favorites and sits right on the beach—stunning views. The bungalows are new and well maintained. We are already planning another trip back.

We love the Big Island but hadn't been for a number of years (we were loyal visitors for years at Kona Village Resort before the 2011 tsunami). We are so happy to have found LLBC, which reminds us so much of KVR but with wonderful updated facilities. We stayed in hale Wa'a (farthest from the restaurant, which made our stay quieter) and love the place. Comfortable, clean, nice touches all around. Especially loved the daily delivery of 5 pm pupus and special cocktails -- each night was different and terrific. We ended up eating all meals (lunch & dinner) at the restaurant which was also really good, fun spot and accommodating staff. We already booked for next year!

Room Tip: Stay in Hale Wa'a if possible - it's worth the slightly higher price.

We stayed here two nights at the end of our 2 week journey on the big island and wished we had stayed a lot longer. Nothing beats the access to this clean, beautiful beach. The rooms are so quaint and the private outdoor showers are amazing. I do believe this is the best place on the island to see a sunset too. We also enjoyed the staff very much - the house keeper, Marlo, is a doll!
