“Sunset Luau - Luau "Unplugged"”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 via mobile

My family and I attended the Marriott Waikoloa Beach "Sunset Luau" last Saturday, April 12. They schedule two per week (Weds and Sat). We had a great time, it was probably less commercial than the 3 I've attended in the past, Royal Lahaina (Maui) Polynesian Cultural Center (Oahu) and Maui Prince Luau (since discontinued). IMO, they're all fairly commercial, but this was slightly different due to the intimacy factor. There were approximately 20 tables of 8 guests, not a bad seat in the house, it was like a luau "unplugged". Btw, if you stay at the Marriott, which we did, you receive 20% off admission, 2 adults, 2 kids (under 12) ran us $250.

The show featured a "seasoned" female MC, who was forgetful of names but very cute with a tremendous voice ( she also sang). Pretty standard format, Hawaiian, Tahitian, Society Island dances and Maori chant an the grand finale fire dancer. The small band (4 members) played "big", a much larger sound than I anticipated. The Percussion was amazing!

The food-

Fresh Kalua Pig pulled from the Imu for all to see, Hawaiian Mac salad, fish, etc., all pretty dang good!

There was also an open bar, no blended drinks, but mixed drinks ( The Big Island Ice Tea was delicious and potent), wine and beer. We took full advantage as we didn't have to drive anywhere. The two bartenders were cool and were having fun with the guests.

Craft tables - there were a couple of leis for sale and some hand carved tikis as well.

All in all, a night to remember, I highly recommend this luau!!

“Wonderful Lu'au - even for picky eaters!”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

We wanted to do a Lu'au as part of our Hawaiian vacation, but were a little scared and intimidated since there are so many, at different prices, with different menus! This was a wonderful experience and a good value - though I wish I had upgraded our seats, we were told it wasn't worth it...
Daughter (17), son (13), mom, dad, and grandparents all went to the show and had a wonderful time. There was shopping, an open bar with friendly bartenders, great performers who took time to make photos with guests after the show. And most importantly, my husband and son, who are extremely picky eaters, enjoyed various things offered for dinner - primarily the kalua pig!

“A Fun Night”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

We had no idea what to expect at this luau given the mixed reviews. Overall we loved it! The drinks from the open bar were very good. The food was excellent. We are pretty confident that the pork was the same pork we watched being pulled out of the imu pit. The program/dancing itself was excellent. We liked the fact that the hostess narrated each dance to explain what we were seeing. It was a great introduction to what a luau is. We would like to find one next time that isn't as narrated.

The setting can't be beat. We had a perfect view of the sunset.

Also, we didn't get the VIP tickets. We got there at about 4:15 so we were pretty close to the front of the line. We ended up getting seats on the second row, right behind the VIP row. Saved money and still had a great view of the stage.

“Thoroughly enjoyed ”
Reviewed 25 March 2014 via mobile

The sun was setting behind the stage and there was a rainbow behind us. My husband had attended the luau at the Hilton down the street but said that this was better. The setting looks a bit more natural. The dancers and entertainers seemed to really enjoy themselves too. The food was tasty and the drinks were free flowing. The mixed drinks were tasty but I could tell they went light on the alcohol. It was a good thing though because a lot of people were getting drinks like they had never seen an open bar before.

“Amazing Show!”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

This is the first luau I have been to, but others in my group had been to several and they all agreed this was the best show they have been to. Food was descent and it was fun to branch out and try some of the island favorites. Price is not worth the food, but worth every bit of the entertainment. The fire dancer was spectacular and the hula dancers were great! Thought the length of show was perfect and didn't dislike any portion. Open bar had a long line, but drinks were good!
