My family and I have just returned from our 8 day stay at the Kohala Suites, part of the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Waikoloa Beach Resort. This property had all of the amenities that you could ask for. Spacious accomadations with a moderately equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and a porch overlooking the golf course where we could enjoy breakfast every day. This is also a great location for getting to most places on the island. It's not too far from the saddle rd which takes you across to Hilo and Volcanoes but is also a nice location for accessing Kona and Waimea.

While in Hawaii we spent a good bit of time traversing the island but particularly enjoyed our days spent at the Hilton Village watching (and swimming) with the dolphins, and swimming in the lagoon. The children's pool at the hilton has a sand floor so for days when we just wanted a small pool we went to the clubhouse which has a wonderful set up that is perfect for kids. Our daughter loved the lagoon. She got to meet sea turtles and a great variety of fish.

The negatives were few and far between as we enjoyed our stay immensely. In fact, I only have 2. You are given one packet of coffee when you arrive to go with your coffee maker. You will be charged for additional packets. Also, the lay out of the 2 bedroom that we were in was not ideally suited to a family with very small children. The bedrooms were on opposite sides of the condo and in the end our daughter ended up sleeping in our room every night because we simply couldn't hear her when she needed something (like help going to the potty) during the night.

Great place to take the family if you are an owner of the Hilton Hotel families. Just be prepared to drive to any of the nice pools. The pool at our location was under construction. The closest one in walking distance was way too warm for the warm weather and was not even refreshing. All the other pools that we had access to were awesome, but you have to drive to them kind of making it a pain. Just make sure to plan for the day. They say no food or drink, but we did every day. Just don't take in glass and they don't say anything. Pool at Kings Land was brand new and we were able to go for the day only. Very nice for kids - sand bottom pool, lots of water slides, lots of rocks and an adult pool area as well. I really enjoyed it but if we wanted to go another day we had to pay. Doesn't make sense when we are Hilton owner's. We should have had access to that pool as well, just like the Hilton Hotel. If we did not have to pay we would have spent alot more time there. Our property was very quiet. We had problems with the a/c on occasion due to the slider door not being shut properly (who knew to make sure the slider was shut in order to make the a/c turn on). Lots of pretty flowers/trees, lots of different kinds of birds, but also lots of feral cats. We think one of them sprayed on our ice chest (we were on the bottom floor with an open patio). Not cool. Don't pick them up either, pretty sketchy. Wild mongoose also run on the property. Our room faced the golf course, so we sometimes had balls coming over the lava rock median. No big deal though. Overall, nice place, just far from use of any of the other activities. If you go to Hilton Hotel, drive, if you have a rental (ps - staying on this island you definitely want a rental car, the island is way too big to not have one). Don't wait for shuttle to go anywhere, takes too long, and the Hilton will validate your parking and parking at the shopping centers is free. Inside the Hilton is a boat shuttle or tram to take you to each pool. Very cool, I advise taking the boat shuttle, you get to see more of the property that way. All in all the properties are beautiful and were well maintained. Would definitely go back again. All the beaches/state parks are beautiful as well, go to the one right one the other side of the Marriott (Waikoloa State Park I believe). It's beautiful, it's the closest and they have everything you need there, snorkeling (lots of fish and turtles), boat rentals/cruises and food. Be sure to visit the volcano and it's steam vents, very cool. Lots of sightseeing to do so be prepared. Wish we had a couple more days to relax by the beautiful pools!

Convenient location. Close to beautiful beaches, hilton pools and shopping. Having a kitchen saves so much money since restaurants get very expensive. The pool was under maintenance but we preferred to drive to beaches for the snorkelling. Staff was friendly unlike the other reviews.

Perfect hotel for our small group of friends. Our unit had two bedrooms and two bathrooms - a master with a king and large bathroom and smaller room with two full size beds. The living room also had a sleeper sofa. The room has a kitchen where we prepared breakfast before heading out for the day. We also had access to the Hilton Waikoloa - a grand hotel with various wonderful amenities. There are several large pools, dolphin encounter and lagoon.

This property is comprised of 3-story buildings, most of which surround a golf course. Parking is super easy right outside your unit. All are 2-bedroom, 2-bath units, however, the 2nd bedroom, although it has 2 double beds, is really best suited for children or maybe 2 adults. The room is very small, with windows facing onto the walkway & parking lot, and no real closet. 3 adults had to keep some of their suitcases in the living area. The master bedroom was spacious. Kitchen area and living room are nicely furnished with a small patio or balcony. If you come here for the 4th of July, do not try to watch the fireworks from your patio/balcony. Too many trees/buildings block the view. It's best to go down to Queen's Bowl and enjoy the show. There is a shuttle every 30 minutes that will take you to shops/hotels.

This is an older time-share facility that has been renovated. The rooms were nice and clean, with comfortable beds. The location is ok, but it is about a mile away from the large Hilton hotel complex. The swimming pool is small but clean. The workout room is in the adjacent "Bay Club", and is adequate. My biggest complaint is the service. On several different occasions when I called customer services or the front desk, the phone rang for several minutes( I timed it on my watch) before someone would finally answer. When they did pick up the phone, they were always very irritated that I had bothered them. This is the only HGVC location that I have been at where they charge $4.00 for coffee, and $1.04 for a small envelope of laundry detergent. (If you complain about it, they will give it to you at no charge.) Employees from the other parts of the Hilton complex did tell us that it was common to hear complaints about the management at this location. We visited the "King's Land" location, which is just across the street and the newest HGVC facility, and were very impressed. The rooms were a little better, the employees were very friendly and helpful, and the swimming pools were 10x as nice. When I go back to the Big Island, I will definately stay at the King's Land.

Came to this hotel on the Hilton Grand Vacation 'time share' offer. This is a beautiful property but it is HUGE. We checked in and caught the boat to the tower that the room was in and the boat stop was right in front of a bar... and it was happy hour! Thats a great way to start a vacation! The room was large, well kept and decorated. Very comfortable bed and bedding. WARNING: the hundreds of birds that make the grounds their homes sound the 'alarm' at sunrise and sunset when they all tweet and tweeter together! We unpacked and went down to explore the grounds. Ended up walking right to the KPC and they were able to set us up on the deck to enjoy a wonderful meal with a beautiful sunset. The waiter was the best one we had the whole trip. This was such an enjoyable dinner we came back for dinner on our last night to an equaly wonderful dinner and sunset!! We tried snorkling in the lagoon ( later afternoon when all the kids arn;t splashing or kayaks strring up the bottom) but had a difficult time with seeing. Thought it was my contacts or my mask but realized later it was warm water spots that blur the water! The lagoon has lots of the warm water spots so I was unable to see well enough to enjoy. it is a little murky but so was the snorkling we did in A bay. Early in the morning you can see to the fish, turtles, even a manta ray just standing on the shore. This is a great place for first time snorklers and kids! A couple days of waiting for that tram or boat get really tiersome. There were a couple of times that I would get down to the lobby and realize I forgot something in the room and think it was not worth the 1/2 to wait for the tram to the room, walk up and over to the room and then wait for the tram again. After 4 days of it I knew I would not want to stay at his property again. And you have 2 choices for breakfast, $26 per person buffet ( you can order off the menu but coffee is $6 juiceis $6, eggs are $12) or you can get muffin and coffee for $7 at the pool cafe. Lunch is not much easier ( we didn't find the lunch spot till the very last night!) Did I metion that the property is BIG! It is beautiful and the pool(s) are great it is just soo spread out and you and the kids will need lots of patience ( and money for meals) when staying here.
