“Laid back, best deal on the North Shore”

My boyfriend and I have stayed at this place two years in a row. Compared to the over-commercialized, super expensive resorts, this is a welcome respite.

We were SO close the beach (2 blocks) and ate breakfast on our patio every morning. We love the cats and chickens that roam the property.

Yes, it's really "rustic" (bugs, lizards, humid) -- not crisp at all, but for a beach bungalow, it works.

Firstly, Bill the manager is fantastic. We called a number of times at the last minute to see if they had availability and he accommodated us each and every time. He also gave us some excellent food recommendations and let us keep our rucksacks on site after checkout. The accommodation was everything I had hoped for, it's certainly not a luxury resort type place, which I didn't want, it's relaxed, down to earth style accommodation, which was perfect for our Hawaiian adventure. We did not have a car but this wasn't a problem. Hanalei township is a 5-10 min stroll along the highway, the beach is a 8 min stroll and there's a bus stop only minutes away at the bus yard (behind the old court house). We stayed in room 5 (a number of times) which is the end unit. It's a cosy unit with air-con, a fan, cable tv, coffee making facilities and a decent bathroom/shower. Perfect. You might hear the neighbours every now and again as the walls are quite thin, but apart from that it suited our needs to a tee. The free wifi access was great. We also stayed in room 1, nearest to the highway but noise wasn't an issue we noticed. It's a larger unit with kitchen, air-con, fan, cable tv, coffee making facilities and a decent bathroom/shower. The free wifi access was on and off in this room as it's further away, so occasionally i would have to walk nearer to managers unit to pick up a signal. No worries though. If you're looking for a place which is good value, in an excellent location, with super helpful staff, then this is for you. I can't recommend it highly enough. Loved Halalei, it's awesome!

This hotel, the Location and Manager was amazing. I had a Great Time. It was clean, close to the Beach and the Central, a short Ride to the na pali Coast and Bill the Manager was so Nice. I miss already the cats and the Nice talks. I was 17 days there and it felt like home. Hopefully I can come back in due Time. Thanks for the Great Birthday and all the Information for Places which local knew only. Mahalo for everything Bill and Alisha.

Stayed for our last night in kauai and I was sadly disappointed. Firstly the bed had faded sheets for the 80's and did not look inviting or smell fresh. The whole room did not smell fresh, there was sand on the floor which tells me it didn't even get a sweep out. I felt ripped off by this place. Looks great and quaint from the outside but is missing a tasteful, neutral fresh touch on the inside. What a missed opportunity to offer something rustic, simple and beautiful by the host. Furniture is not comfortable and bed is too soft with hole in the center.

Bill the host was friendly, and welcoming. He lives on site and is a hoverer... looking for conversation with guests. Great if your into conversational rambles but it wasn't for me.

Bathroom was clean and good thankfully. Four cottages are attached and have paper thin walls so it feels like a cheap motel. Was awake with noise from TV next door and any conversations can be heard as annoying mumbles. Was woken by neighbors cell calls.

This is not good value for money. It is far too expensive for what it is. It is a low maintained batch set-up that might work for those who don't care for style or pleasing comfort, but even then you can find more affordable and much nicer places than this.

No extras offered besides beach towels which was a change from our previous place which was half the price and had a supplies area available for guests stocked with body boards, fine, snorkels, kayaks, bikes, picnic coolers, beach chairs and mats all for free to borrow.

Room is equipped with everything you need...and whatever you may need the staff is more than willing to provide...from laundry service...beach equipment...to sunburn care. The service was beyond expectation and the location was ideal. This place was cozy with remote vibe...and great scenery. Within walking distance to everything you need and close enough to bus stop if you don't want to rent a car. The price was exceptional and we were very happy with our stay here. If anything the hanalei inn was the perfect retreat and made our trip completely hassle free!!!

I really loved the quiet, laid back nature of this tiny 5 unit inn. We stayed in #1, which was the closest to the road. At first this concerned me (b/c of potential noise), but it was surprisingly quiet. I loved the roaming wild chickens that became our pleasant alarm clock. Also, the two resident kitties were sweet.

The room itself had a kitchenette (you can get a bungalow without one), which was very basic, but had all we needed (stovetop, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave).

Our innkeeper, Bill, was really nice and laid back. He brought us beach towels when he saw that we were avid beachgoers. p.s. Beach access is 1 street over. Bonus.

The bed was very soft, which made it so comfy, but my back didn't love it the next day. We loved sitting on the porch to drink our amazing toasted coconut coffee from the market up the street. Town is a walkable distance. Only struggle, a few lizards and bugs in the room, but hey, it's Kauai. :)

Make sure to visit Tiki Man Pizza and Bar Acuda (silly name, I know) for dinner.

To start, you need to know what you are getting before you show up or you may be disappointed. We knew because we checked it out online. This is a very small Inn with small rooms perfectly adequate for our one night stay. It is not a resort or the kind of place that is the destination itself. We spent one night because we wanted to eat at Bar Acuda and hike the Kalalau and didn't want to drive up and back from Waimea. Hanalei Inn is quaint. We stayed in room 5. The room had a coffee maker, small refrigerator, microwave, TV, DVD and wifi. Quite a lot for a small place and room. Our room was very small. The check-in process is unique. You look at the board in the covered lanai and just go to your room. The reservation process is by phone and the person is off premises. We had a little glitch with our billing but that was rectified once detected. Bill the manager was terrific and gives the place a very local feel plus he is a great source of knowledge. We had a lot of fun talking with him. I would definitely come back here.
