We spent three weeks travelling in Hawaii during January. Staying at the Hanalei Surfboard House in the Love Shack was the highlight of our holiday. Now that we are back home we are still thinking about how truly amazing our experience was. Simon the owner was fabulous at helping us with information on where to go for dinner and things to do in the local area. The accommodation was fantastic, the layout perfect, the detail in the decorating was so interesting, Simon had everything covered for a traveller to this part of the world. The proximity to the beach was great, and being able to walk into town and go out to dinner or shopping was a bonus. We just loved the fabulous feel to the place and this lovely town.

This review is long overdue as we stayed for 6 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday in the Elvis Suite. As other reviews have noted Simon has thought of everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible and we enjoyed the back pation, the kitchen and BBQ as we ate in often. This is the perfect spot in Hanalei and I would not change a thing. The grounds are beautiful and loved seeing the birds and flowers greet us every time we arrived back to our bungalow. Perfect spot as you can walk to the beach or town which makes it even more relaxing. A trip to Cost Co when you arrive as it is near the airport is key as you can stock up on essentials. Loved the local shampoo, conditioner and soap in the bathroom as it was such a nice touch and loved being able to try locally produced products.Thank you again Simon and promise we will see you soon!

Hanalei is one of my favorite places in the world, and staying at the Hanalei Surfboard House made the experience even better. Simon is a generous and accommodating host, and his attention to aesthetic details is phenomenal. This is a fun, relaxing, comfortable, quiet, beautiful place, a short block or two from the beach, and a two-minute drive from town center. And in the unlikely event that you should need something Simon hasn't already provided, he'll be happy to help you out. (We stayed in the Elvis Suite, but all three rooms are great.)

I suppose I could sum up this review in this first sentence by revealing that I actually cried when we left The Love Shack I loved it that much! My husband I honeymooned there for 11 days over the Thanksgiving holiday and could not have enjoyed ourselves more.

The beach is just across the street- we went daily, whether for just an hour to watch the sunset w/a cocktail or to spend the entire day surfing, boogie boarding and hanging out.

The Love Shack itself is the coolest place. The decor was amazing...so many unique details. It was so great being able to stock up at Costco (highly recommended!) at the beginning of the trip so that we could prepare and enjoy meals at the Love Shack and not have to go out for every meal like we would have to do if staying at a hotel.

Simon really thought of everything- he went above and beyond! He lives on the property and was available whenever we had questions. He provides beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards, and so much more. The sound system was incredible. The patio area was key- we were able to wash up after a day at the beach in the outdoor shower (fenced in for privacy) and even used the BBQ grill to cook our Thanksgiving Turkey!

We had such an amazing time and cannot wait to go back. Mahalo Simon!

Hanalei is beautiful beyond words and having visited many times over the past few years I can say without hesitation that the only place to stay that equals the perfection of this wonder town is the surf board house. This was our second stay and every detail was as good if not better than our first stay.

We stayed in the Love Shack for three weeks this time and it truly was our home away from home. This place is incredibly clean and the attention to detail is amazing. Everyday we would notice some other little detail that makes up this fantastic villa.

The property is situated just seconds from the beach and equipped with chairs, matts, towels, boogie boards, coolers and anything you could need for a perfect beach day.

Simon is an awesome host and has the exact balance of there when you need him for something or want a chat but respects your time to chill and enjoy the local feel.

Local resturants are great but it is just as nice to use the kitchen and BBQ and cook up some outrangously fresh food that you can get from the local farmers market. The weekly farmers market also just minutes from the property and there are of course wicker baskets to use! Feeling like a local is easy to do when staying here and the only problems is the vacation blues that set in after you leave this amazing place.

Thanks Simon for keeping this place so perfect, we have already booked for next year and can't wait!

This is my second time visiting the Surfboard House. Once again i had an amazing time thank you Simon (the owner). This is such relaxing place to stay and you can't beat the location, directly in front of the beach. I stayed in the cowgirl suite and it was so fun with all the cute decor. I strongly suggest that if you decide to visit stay here. From experience i can say its well worth every penny.

Let me start with the sound system. At home I play my iPod either through my PC or on a $65 blue tooth device I bought. At Surfboard House I played my iPod through a set of Bose speakers. Jimmy Buffett never sounded so good. That’s the attention to detail. Most accommodation owners who say their place is “fully self-contained” have a limited view of what that means. Here it includes everything. There are boogie boards, beach chairs, a cooler (Esky if you’re Australian) and beach towels so large and thick it takes two of you to carry one to the beach. Speaking of the beach – it is one block away, has a life guard and is simply magnificent. I am a surfer and found rideable waves at the beach down the front or nearby just about every day. Simon your host is affable and helpful. It is a five minute walk to the Hanalei town. Just about the best week’s holiday I have ever spent.
