“Ice Cold Showers not worth any price”
Reviewed 9 December 2010

This place seemed ok at first glance as it was relatively inexpensive and situated only a 20 minute drive from some beaches. But upon further inspection, the mattress was not comfortable, the couch was dust infested, the walls were paper thin affording the opportunity to hear the next rooms television very clearly. The bathroom door was not really a door, so if you like to "do your business" in privacy, that's out of the question. The worst part is the ice cold showers. After a long day on the beach and prior to a nice Friday night dinner, the least my girlfriend and I wanted was a hot shower. Did not happen! The water was freezing and when I called to management to resolute the issue, they asked that we run the water for at least 10-20 minutes and wait. 20 minutes later...NO HOT WATER. First of all this is not a environmentally friendly practice. Water is a precious resource and to purposely waste it is a crime. At that point we needed to leave but we did not let it ruin our night, and promptly checked out first thing in the morning with the promise of a some kind of resolution from the management. After a few days of no response I called and was subsequently informed that they will not be offering any kind of compensation because they feel there was not a problem. Essentially, this is a dis-honest move by the inn and I plan to take it up through local advocacy that service offered by this establishment is simply unacceptable. Do what we did...pay an additional $50 a night and stay at a property in Poipu. You'll be happy you did and actually feel like you are in Hawaii rather than backpacking through Costa Rica at a hotel that is worth $30 a night.

In response to our newest scathing review: “Ice Cold Showers not worth any price” Dec 9, 2010 | Trip type: Couples, by BeachvsMountains (K. Klein) New York City http://www.tripadvisor.com/members/BeachvsMountains. As you well know, a business’ reputation determines the success or failure of that business. The Kalaheo Inn was founded in the mid-1990s and managed by “local” Kauai folks. Throughout the years it has maintained a good and reputable name and has become members in good standing of: the Kauai Chamber of Commerce, the Hawaii Visitors & Convention bureau and the Hawaii Better Business Bureau. Here at KALAHEO INN because we are environmentally conscious; we have gone GREEN. We use a combination of: natural gas and solar energy for our hot water systems in all of our guest suites. We also use low energy lighting in all of these same guest suits and recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles. The Friendly Inn With The Friendly Price!

The receptionist was extremely helpful and gave me maps and advices where to go. The Steak and Ribs restaurant offers a good menu and friendly services. My room is very cosy with kitchenette and clean. I am extremely satisfied with the unpretentious style which blend with the nature very well.

Ask the reception where to hire a jeep to go to the beaches. its a lot of fun!

We selected Kalaheo Inn because we were traveling on a budget. That being said we understood that we not staying at the fanciest place. We stayed in the house at the rear of the property. At about 9 pm we could hear the loud noises from the nearby restaurant and someone was walking back and forth behind the house until very late. To top it off, the trucks parked next to the house started at 6 am. The management moved us (after a lot of complaining) to two other rooms. The place was not very clean and very disappointing in so many other ways. Stay away!

I've just returned from a 10 day stay on Kauai. My daughter and I stayed at the Kalaheo Inn for the first three days of our trip. If you are looking for a mega-resort with all the ammenities, Kalaheo Inn is not for you. But if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, convenient motel on the south shore that is reasonably priced, try the Kalaheo Inn. We stayed in one of the studio apartments, and we had as much room (or more) than the usual hotel room. We also had a kitchenette complete with apartment-sized refrigerator, stove, dishes, and utensils. We enjoyed our breakfasts on the lanai (patio) each morning while we listened to the birds and tried to identify the flowers. The staff in the office was very helpful and showed much aloha spirit. Kalaheo Inn is within walking distance of at least a half-dozen or so restaurants. And the beds were like sleeping on clouds!!

We stayed at the Inn for two nights before joining the rest of our family at another resort. We arrived late and our room was left open with the key inside. We stayed in a two bedroom unit with a small kitchen. It was one of the only "budget" hotels I could find for our family of 5. The linens and room were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The location is central to the island, however you will need a rental car. In town, were the two best restaurants! I know it sounds silly but Brick Oven Pizza in Hawaii? It was wonderful. The Kalaheo Cafe breakfasts were outstanding. Friendly wonderful people and the best coffee we have ever tasted. We walked to both. The downside to the hotel is there isno air conditioning which it's a problem by itself, it's just that you will need to leave the windows open. Open windows lets in noise. The chickens at 3 am, neighbors grilling late into the night, etc. Mini blinds do not keep the rooms dark and the small rooms means that the beds are against the windows. The bath is tiny. This is a budget hotel - do not expect resort style rooms. The building looks to be a former apartment building.

We stayed here for one night as a base for exploring the Southern part of the island. After deciding that Poipu was too expensive, we looked at Kalaheo and decided to try here.

Our room was a good size but the bed was very tall, about 80cm off the floor!

Everything was clean and functional but I wouldn't stay here for long.

The only complaint we had was that we could hear the conversations and TV from next door all too clearly.

There's no breakfast included.

This was a hotel recommended by budget travel, place is clean, though rooms smaller than appears on website, issues: only clean towels/linens etc. on arrival, otherwise u wash. , weather always windy, lights always on outside which comes in through windows at night . The mattress sucks, either extremely soft (pillow top) which can really screw up your back or flip it over for very hard. Bathroom no privacy , louvered door to bedroom ! Suggestion: Spend a little more $ an get a nicer place somewhere else. ps. Kahaleo isnt that "quaint" !
