“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

I often visit Kapaa Hawaii for both business and pleasure. I have stayed at several hotels, most of them disappointing, if not really bad!
It is hard to find value for your dollar on Kauai! the Beach Boy is an exception. The grounds are lovely, the pool superb (even had a tiny water fall), the "rooms' are huge...we were up graded to a 2 bedroom suit on the 3rd floor. One couldn't want any better!

Room Tip: Try for an "upgrade"...if they have one available, they will do it.

Green Features: Re-cycling! So many pleases in Kauai ignore this important environmental awareness.

Upon arrival, the front desk was very attentive and helpful, We were referred to a second desk for "parking pass" which was a concierge desk to make appointments for a timeshare presentation. This is a combination timeshare and hotel set up.

Location in Kapaa is good as it is in the middle of the highway to the north and south shores. However, it is noisy traffic wise and there is always sloow traffic the town. The Coconut Market Place is across the driveway, but there is little left for shopping. The Whaler's General Store, Crazy Shirts, Lappert's Ice Cream and a few souvinier stores. You can do much better else where on the island.

It is located on the water, but not real beach, but since beaches are public in Hawaii you can go next door and use the beach.

We were assigned room 2201. What a disappointment. It was located on the main maill area of the resort with the pool, beach restaurant and other amenities. Also it was located at the front where live music can be heard until PM from the open air restaurant. Furnishings were average and the sleeper couch was uncomfortable for sitting.

There was a smaill kitchenette, which was poorly furnished. Only six plates which required daily washing, good thing they had a "noisy" dishwasher! The bath room was arranged akwardly, and you had to get out of the shower to retrieve you towel, not too good on a slippery tile floor.

Shopping is convenient, and you can walk to Safeway and Foodland. There is a shopping mall on the premises.

Beware of the stairs going up and down. The slope is shallow, steps are wide and they are covered with a pattern to matches each step create the illusion of a ramp and not steps. I fell coming down the steps. Fortuantely, I was just bruised and sore. We reported the fall to management and they took a report, The security guard who spoke with us the second time said, "I know what you mean by the steps, I walk them everyday, and they are not safe" The following week we were in another hotel, and mentioned it to the concierge. She said, " You mean they have not changed those carpets yet? I worked their for 10 years and the steps were like that then!" Not a good recommendation for other visitors.

Would we stay there again, absolutely not!

Room Tip: Request a room not located on the mail mall of the unit, and especially not 2291

What a great place! Definitely want to return to Kauai and the Beach Boy. The grounds are beautiful, the location is great, and the Beach Boy staff are friendly and helpful. This was one of my family's most enjoyable vacations ever. Certainly a paradise! Everything we wanted in a vacation and more.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good.

I'll rate this resort as "The best resort on Kauai!". The garden is very well maintained just like a paradise!!! Great location, professional service, and staffs are very helpful especially "Mary" from front desk. My partner and I stayed at the beachboy for the very first night and stayed somewhere else cross the road. Because of the fine experience, we cancelled the rest of the nights originally booked and went back to the beachboy! Totally worth with what you paid for. Make sure you dine in the restaurant during your stay. The chefs there cooked the best "Ahi with mash potato" on Kauai! So far this is my top 1 favourite resort on Kauai. Mahalo!

Room Tip: Book yourself in the "one bedroom with garden view." Spacious room with beautiful bed.

Partially because it's part of our timeshare company, but it's almost always a pleasant experience. We stay here at least once a year, more when we can. Having laundry facilities in the room is nice for longer stays; the kitchen allows you to cook meals to help cut expenses. We always use one of the several BBQ's on the grounds. Pools and spa are always nice and clean(small pool for the little ones) The poolside snack/cocktail bar serves up some great stuff.
One of my favorite island eateries(Hukilau Lanai)is on the property, so you needn't go far to dine.
There are shops up front at the Coconut Marketplace that have just about anything you need for your stay. Grocery stores are a short drive down the street, as well as other restaurants(Shrimp Station is a fave), shopping, snorkel rentals, bike rentals(Coconut Coasters is the best!)The Kapaa area has everything you need in a Hawaiian vacation.

Room Tip: No elevators, so if you have older members in your party, you might request a ground floor room. The...

We've been lucky enough to visit Kauai 3x now, but staying on the eastside in Kapaa was a first for us. Loved that it was so close to great amenities (Safeway, Lydgate Beach Park) and was central for driving north to Hanalei or south to Poipu. We were there for a wedding that was held at the Hukilau Lanai, the restaurant at the Beachboy. We're probably biased, as it was great fun having 17 friends and family members all staying at the same property, but we really had a wonderful stay. The rooms were large, spotless and really well equipped. The "island décor" in the rooms is a tad dated, but it's sort of what you imagine for Kauai and is a large part of its charm. (Plus you really don't want this island to get all "Maui-fied"). We loved sipping Mai Tai's by the pool and swinging in the hammock's at the edge of the ocean. We also loved having the central lanai with the fire pits, where we could all meet up for cocktails. Every single service person we encountered was lovely and couldn't be more helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again in the future.

I needed an extra nights stay and through a discount website, I was able to secure a pretty good price for one night at Kauai Coast. I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of the room, cleanliness of the studio, the ammenities included, the grounds (love the fire pit), the pool was very nice and I appreciated the hammocks. The front desk was ok ( I think they are nicer to those that are timeshare owners) but overall they were fine. Danny, who checked me out, was very nice.
I would stay here again, when I need am extra night or two on the island, and if anyone is interested on the staying on the eastside, this is a good location. Coconut Marketplace is almost a ghost town, the ocean is too rough for swimming, but the hotel is very nice and the restaurant top notch.
