“Our best choice in Kauai”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

Jeff and Ross own two cottages and we have been very fortunate to spend some days in each, so our opinion refers to both cottages.
We were looking for a nice and quite cottage, different from big hotels and resorts, and we were very lucky to find this, very good decision to stay here!!. The cottages are very well decorated, roomy, very well maintened, spotlessly clean and fully equipeed with everything you can imagine. Not only the kitchen is fully equipped with all minor details including oil, salt, peper..., but also books, cards, music to enjoy the time at the house. There is also a nice barbacue and a cover area to eat outside. Jeff and Ross provide towels, beach towels, boards, beach chairs, coolers to take your lunch to the beach......, hats, bags, umbrella. You do not miss anything as they have already thought on it.
The cottages are surrounded by vegetation, fruit trees from which you can pick mangos, bananas, guavas.....and there is a very nice outdoor shower under the bananas.

Do not want to forget to mention that both cottages have very good free wifi connection and free phone to make local calls. This is always helpful.

17 Palms Kauai is really well located, close to the airport, short distance to Kapa'a where you have shops, supermarket and restaurants, and conveniently localed to visit the north/east coast and beaches as well as the south. If you are planning to spend a few days in this gorgeous island, we would recommend to be only at one place and the place is 17 Palms Kauai. It is located in a small neighbourhood and there is no car noise or people noise. You can only hear the trees moving and the roosters, just nature.

We met Jeff and could understand why the cottages are so nicely cared, Jeff is very helpful and supportive with recommendations on where to go, where to dine, what to visit. We can also say that due to the unexpected situation of a hurricane arriving to Hawaii we could experience Jeff's kindness in helping us to arrange everything to extend our stay at his place, and this is why we could experience Hale Iki after a week in Meli Meli. This unexpeceted situation, turned out to be a positive experience for us, as we could visit more places in Kauai!!.

We have really good memories of Kaui and 17 Palms Kauai, we miss Meli Meli and Hale Iki, you made our stay feel better than being at home.

This was our first trip to Kauai, and I didn't want to stay in a resort hotel or condo. I also wanted a central location as I knew we would be touring the island. I came across this cottage, and although it looked small for 4 adults, decided to give it a go. What a great decision on my part I must say. Nestled in a tropical garden we found Meli Meli waiting for us. On examining the cottage we realized Jeff and Ross had anticipated every need of the vacationer. Each time we opened a closet someone said, "Hey, look at this". Beach gear, coolers, well stocked kitchen, comfy beds in tastefully decorated rooms. I opened the armoire in the living room and discovered books, games and cards for those rainy days. (Which we didn't have, thank heavens) Plenty of towels, both bath and beach, sunscreens and lotions of all sorts. The cottage was roomy, much larger and airier than it appears in the lovely photos. Ceiling fans and open windows kept us cool when we were in. We enjoyed walking to the two little shopping areas for food and gifts. Passion Bakery, Monico's, Lapperts Ice Cream, Korean BBQ. We purchased fresh fish and pineapple for grilling. Ate in the covered dining area outside.
The cottage is not oceanfront, but head out the back gate and down the beach access path to two different swimming experiences. Rough and tumble, and to the right a protected pool and a calmer beach. Great for watching sunrises and moonrises as well. Meli Meli is situated in a small neighborhood. Frankly I found it quieter and more restful here than our previous week on Ka'anapali Beach. Mahalo Nui Loa, Jeff and Ross. so glad we had a chance to meet you both. We truly miss Meli Meli and Kauai, you made it so easy to feel right at home.

My husband and I stayed here for the first half of our honeymoon. The cottage was lovely! It was quaint but still spacious, tastefully decorated and very comfortable to lounge around in. I loved how all the decorations seemed to go well together, from the wall decorations to the furniture to the dishes and to the nice bamboo window frames. The place was also noticeably spotless and we were welcomed with a handwritten note and some goodies (that freshly picked mango was amazing). We did some cooking in the cottage and were super happy to see that the kitchen was well-stocked. Even better, everything we needed something, it seemed to be there. The coolers we found to most useful for picnics on the beach, and the drying rack was excellent for hanging wet beach stuff and laundry. The owners were friendly and helpful, calling to making sure that our stay was good. Don't miss the binder of info in the cottage--lots of great info in there! The blue guidebook was way better than the ones we had brought. If you like fresh seafood, Hawaiian-style pork and eating at local-type places, try getting a plate lunch at Pono Market in downtown Kapaa, super delicious! Anyways, Kevin and I had a lovely stay at 17 Palms and hope to stay with you guys again sometime. Thanks for everything, Jeff and Ross! Mahalo and aloha!

My wife and I stayed here in 2008, we are returning for a trip next month and are trying to decide between returning to Kauai and making a trip to Maui. This will be our third trip to Hawaii we usually start in Honolulu and then take a get away vacation for a couple days as we are usually staying with friends. I read one bad review from this time frame and have to say that the owners warned us of the construction and offered a discount from the normal rates prior to us booking on very short notice. They almost tried to push us to consider another option if we thought the noise would bother us.

Out time in Kauai was amazing and made better by having a small place of our own to return to each night. The small kitchen made it easy to bring food home and prepare lunch for our day trips. Please consider this place if you enjoy your privacy and enjoy more of a cottage experiance versus the large hotel chain. In our minds 17 Palms fits Kauai perfectly.

My wife spent the second half of our honeymoon at the 17 Palms and were completely taken by its beauty, the nearby shopping center where we picked up some great sandals, souvenirs and found some great food, as well as the downtown Kapa'a area, which had some fantastic coffee shops, bakeries, art galleries and shopping. We would love to come back to Kauai and I can't imagine staying anywhere when we do. The owners were very considerate, accommodating and helpful with giving us suggestions for places to eat, beaches to see and with general advice about the island. We were greeted with fresh fruit picked from the trees outside and nearby.

Everything we needed was in the cottage, including a fully-stocked kitchen, boogie boards, beach chairs, a cooler, books, board games, etc. We don't have the need for them (yet), but there was even a baby chair and a "pack and play" crib. Everything you need is within walking distance, including a beach path, stores and a great bar with great bar food and live music called "Trees".

I call this place the Tree House, an adorable little guest house, where a big tree stands guard out side. Tony and I stayed 4 nights.
We found the place to be spacious, spotless, and well furnished with a full kitchen, great bed linens, beach chairs, ac in the bedroom, towels, the works.
The area of Kaapa we loved, you could walk to the bach, shopping and restaurants, all within close proxcimity.

We enjoyed finding a box of candy and fruit off their trees waiting for us when we arrived.
Well cared for Jeff and Ross!

Aloha,
Bev and Tony Sacre, Maui, Hi.

Room Tip: This was not a hotel, this was a cute little guest house.
