You can't have it all kinda sums up how we feel staying here... We have vacationed to Kauai more than 18 times and we have stopped renting condos here. The trade off of wanting a good beach vs. great room wasn't worth it for our family. We loved the spacious rooms with washer/dryer in unit, modern appliances, clean and well appointed. Bottom line, the rooms are great but the beach is not. This complex was fairly recently built, but many of the 'good' beach resort locations were already taken by this time. The beach at this resort, from what locals have told me, was controversially constructed by hauling in multiple dump loads of sand. From photographs and walking up to it the beach looks great and it is sandy for playing in the sand. When you get in the water, the natural currents have washed sand away. Under the surface and hidden from view, you will find old lava ledges and multiple rocks which can be sharp. You do not see surfing, much boogie boarding, or body surfing ever at this resort. We were surprised at how few people ever get in ocean for any length of time here. It is a great place to get in ocean and cool off while tanning but you might want to wear your water shoes or watch your step. We have found our teen & preteen kids hate beach here because they just can't do much in the way of water sports here. Yes the pool is great, but they can go to great pools while landlocked in midwest at 'home'. While in Hawaii they want to play in ocean, day in and day out. It is not the place to stay if you want to walk out of room and routinely 'play' in ocean waves. If your children will spend most of time at pool or with a bucket and shovel in the sand, then this may be place for you. Or if you are planning on being gone from resort daily and don't mind stopping at other beach locations this would be great room and location to call home base. Since we are landlocked by living in midwest, our family really wants to take advantage of playing in ocean. When we stay here, we find we have to drive to get to better beaches. We have to plan and pack up to go to another beach for our kids to play at end of day after sighting. It has a lovely pool and the rooms are fabulous! We just wish it had better beach for water activities. The sand bottom hot tubs are great, but one unit was not working and the 'adult' unit was often overrun by pre-teens. It is nice having poolside restaurant. As with any resort, expect to pay more for oceanfront rooms. The view and service was great, just beware of multiple hidden sharp rocks under surface of ocean water. You may want to consider another hotel or condo resort if you are looking for a place you can fully utilize the beach for water sports. I would view this resort as better for people with younger children or a place for extended families to meet up. We saw many people staying here who were attending someone's wedding or other families who were merely island hopping for 2-3 nights. Many of the rooms here do not get may not get ocean breezes they use A/C. FYI- the air conditioning in rooms runs only when room is 'habituated' or has motion. There are motion sensors on thermostats to be more economical for energy consumption. At night, this can be problem as motion sensors will not maintain temperatures as there is little motion... If you wake up feeling room is feeling warm and stuffy, just wave your arms and when motion sensor registers motion, A/C will kick back on. Young children, like to view koi fish feeding times! As I said we have stayed on Kauai many times, the east side location is great. The Safeway is just across the street and one of best stocked grocery's on island. FYI- to go, Tofu salad and homemade dressing at Safeway deli counter is great! The view, room and pool can be spectacular here, but this particular resort's beach isn't the best, and it isn't something you would know from looking at photos.

You may be tempted by the driest southern beach, or the northern vistas but....Waipouli Resort in Kapaa beats them all - its the PERFECT location. 20 minutes to north or south, Lihue and in the quaint village of Kappa. Best pool, great beach bar and beautiful suites. Our ground floor unit D102 opened onto a garden peak a poo view of the pool and ocean ! Spend a day on Poipu beach, Ke'e, Anini or Hanalei beach but Waipouli and the eastern sunrise is where we will stay in the future. Tips: Foodland better than Safeway, Kayaks can be rented alacarte upstream at Hawaiian Village rather than river mouth for the secret falls hike, bike ride the ocean path 4 miles north, Boss Frogs has cheap bike rentals, and tahiti nui in hanalei is the best spot to take in some 'island time'.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment on 2nd floor overlooking the garden (and carpark). The apartment was spacious with a large modern kitchen and very comfortable beds. It was extremely clean. There were 3 toilets and 2 bathrooms and 3 tv's.

The pool was large and although most of the rooms were full it didn't feel crowded. There was a separate adults only spa (jacuzzi) as well as a childrens area. Great waterslides also.

There was one restaurant and although we didn't have dinner there, we had desert and it was AMAZING.

Location opposite Safeway, Foodland and some other shops was great. Next door is Vinny's Pizza which was yummy.

There was really nothing negative and if I wanted to be picky the only thing missing would be a floor length mirror - girls always need one!

A tip: We did the Smith's Family Luau which was really great. Food was delicious, the show was entertaining so overall it was good value for money.

The number of positive reviews for this site leads me to believe that there's something fishy going on. We have stayed in several condos mostly in Mexico and this place is way at the bottom of the list for a few reasons.

The worst and most stupid thing about this place is that the kitchen for their beach front restaurant is located 300 ft. from the restaurant itself and is located next to the pool and waterslides IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COMPLEX!

Why is this a problem you ask other than numerous servers and cooks running back and forth... THE NOISE!

The ventilation fans for their stoves are on the roof of the kitchen and they, yes more than one, run 18 hours a day.

I walked around the pool area and the noise echos off all the condos. Unless you have one of the end units directly facing the ocean. FORGET THIS PLACE. You will not be listening to the waves and wind through the palms.

I could go on and mention other things that were sub standard about this place but others have made most of those points.

Don't stay here.

My husband and I found this place through Costco Travel. We changed our original reservation for a 3-star place to this location because we liked the idea of a condo. We had spent 5 days prior on Maui for a work event and had had about enough of big dinners and eating out, so having a condo so we could make our own food and have our own food around was great. Upon checking in we were supplied with a reusable grocery bag and told of the local stores we could shop at. Having basics like fruit, cereal, milk, cold-cuts for sandwiches, and even picking up a roasted chicken was just what we wanted. Had we stayed at a hotel we would not neccessarily have the option to keep food around like that.

The condo kitchen was a lovely granite topped, all stainless steel appliance, cherry wood room that opened into a living space with small eating table, couch, love seat, and a flat screen. We had 2 full size bathrooms, one with a huge tub next to the walk in shower. There were 2 balconies. My other favorite part was the full size/stacked front loading washer/dryer. Especially having been on maui for a week, it was great to wash certain items. We just brought the washer detergent drops and dryer sheets and we were good to go.

Pro's: location on the island is great for exploring and driving, you aren't completely on one side of the island. The town of Kapa'a is right there and full of shops and restaurants.

Cons: if you want to swim, the beach is non-swimmable due to rocks and the currents. They do have a lovely pool area to accomodate for that. I wouldn't say this place is nestled in a overly scenic area of the island, so if you are seeking that I would look elsewhere.

Our room faced the parking lot but we weren't there a lot so it wasn't a big deal. Not sure how noisy it would have been towards the pool. A few rooms face out to the beach.

Overall we were very happy here and didn't have any complaints. It was great for wanting more than a hotel, but not needing something overly fancy with a view.

Room Tip: Rooms facing pool may be noisier. Rooms facing parking lot were fine, however some rooms we saw f...

For our second week in beautiful Kauai we stayed in the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort and Spa. The very spacious two bedroom, three bath had more than enough room for the family of 4. The kids had their own bathrooms! Two walk in showers and two oversided bath tubs, one was huge and the kids could almost swim in it! Two many fantastic things in the rooms to write about. The wife fell in love with the kitchen! But we all came for the pool. Complete with two water slides. Three hot tubs and a lazy river (except no current) which wound around the complex with several waterfalls and a grotto to explore. We will be sure to return and spread the word to our friends. The pictures do no justice, as you have to come see for yourselves.
