The rooms were somewhat difficult to find after first checking in. The rooms were clean and the view (at an angle) overlooked the ocean. The staff was nice but not over-accommodating. Parking was somewhat of a challenge. Close to shopping center.

Room was average with some wear. The grounds were nice and well kept. A few complaints, the table assigned to smokers is in a bad location as smoke drifts and you have to walk through it. If you are not back at the Hotel by 5pm you most likely will have to park off site, this in itself will keep me from coming back, especially after having to pay $18 more a day for "resort fees". I noticed some "local" vehicles saving spots in the parking lot and not allowing the guest to park, they would move the cars such that if you were waiting to park, they would not allow you to until their "friend" was next to pull in.

We stayed a week at this hotel. The rooms were dated but clean. First morning rooster started at 3:30 a.m. And didn't stop (this happened every a.m.and could heard with doors closed and air conditioning on). Could not leave doors open to enjoy sounds of ocean. After 3rd day there they began a renovation and it was terribly noisy. Could not open patio because of the noise and could not sit by the pool during the day because of the noise. Resort fee was ridiculous. Parking was included but was almost impossible to find after 6:00. (You then had to use overflow parking--but have car moved by 10 next a.m.) floor on lanai had pieces of concrete out of it, but because of noise really couldn't enjoy outside at hotel. Laundry facilities were terrible. Would consider somewhere else next time.

We moved to the mainland after being Kauai residents for many years. Upon a return visit we wanted to stay in the Kapaa area since it's central to seeing the island and close to many of the things we wanted to do. The Islander on the Beach seemed like the ideal location for us. We had a nice stay in an ocean front unit. I had a motorcycle which I was able to park on the property along with our rental car and had no problem. Since we had our own "fridge" and microwave, we could prepare light meals such as breakfast or reheat those leftovers from the restaurants. The staff is friendly, the unit was clean, and nicely furnished. It is also walking distance to many restaurants and shopping. We're returning again in February 2015.

Room Tip: There are no elevators which wasn't a problem for us although we stayed on the 3rd floor. A grou...

The first time we stayed in this wonderful place, we said we would come back every year. And we have! We've stayed here through Kreller's Getaway. Brad and Wendy Kreller are awesome, and the rooms are very reasonable priced, well managed, and they are great to work with.

The first time we stayed there, we booked a little late and had to book 2 rooms, and switch part way through. That was fine, and they really worked hard to give us options, and give us a good deal.

The rooms are great, every room has a good view. We've stayed in 239, 329, and my folks stayed in 151 so we hung out there a lot. This year we will be in 160. We loved each room. They have always been clean and just as advertised.

The location of this complex really cannot be beat. You are super close to AMAZING food (YOU HAVE TO GET AN AHI WRAP AT KILAUEA FISH MARKET!!!), a little marketplace, and a bus stop. Everything you need! Even more importantly, you are SUPER close to the beach! We've never rented a car for our stays there, didn't need to.

In short, well run business, great rooms, and great prices in a great location. CANNOT BEAT IT! We will be back every year!

Room Tip: They're all good

We spent 4 nights in this hotel. Although we were mainly traveling and used the hotel only for sleepover we can for sure recommend it. Only small issue in the hotel is parking. There is insufficient count of parking lots in front of the hotel. If you are late, you have to park in front of market place, which is a little bit further.
Nice beach, clean rooms, well equiped kitchen (including microwave).

We stayed at the Islander on the Beach from February 21-27. This resort was not my favorite and I’m usually pretty easy to please. Let me give some pros and cons:

Pros
- The room itself (an ocean front) was nice, clean with a comfortable bed, large bathroom and nice lanai.
- There was a kitchenette area with refrigerator, microwave and dishes/silverware.
- Nice pool bar area where we had drinks a couple of nights.
- The resort was centrally located on the island no matter where you wanted to go.
- We used the Concierge service, she was very helpful in booking a helicopter tour for us.

Cons
- The room was a third floor walk up. No elevators. You’ll want to be aware of this if you are disabled or have a medical condition. Also, we had 3 suitcases of 40+ pounds each; glad we only had to lug them up the stairs once!
- Parking is a problem. There are definitely not enough parking spaces for the number of rooms that they have. There is an overflow lot, but you have to go out and move your car by 10 a.m. The only good thing to say is that they don’t charge a daily parking fee. I think I would have protested that if I couldn’t even park in the lot.
- Then there’s the mandatory daily “amenity fee” of $15 for use of wi-fi, etc (we didn’t need wi-fi or the other services provided). While this seems to be a trend with hotels these days to make their rates look lower (much like airline baggage fees), I don’t like paying for services that I don’t use. Yes, I knew about the charge before checking in, but that doesn’t make it right. Either raise the room price slightly so everyone knows the actual price of the room and then offer “free wi-fi” or make it an optional charge. After all, how much does it really cost to provide a wireless signal?
- The beach is less than pristine. While the resort certainly can’t be responsible for Mother Nature, just be aware that there is a lot of debris on the beach and in the water (rocks, sticks, coconut husks, etc). Not a great beach for playing/swimming. Of all the other beaches we visited, this one was below average.

So all in all, wasn’t the most enjoyable place I’ve ever stayed, but it wasn’t so awful that I was demanding my money back. However, if we were to visit Kauai again, I think I would explore other options before booking here.

Room Tip: No elevators - so if you have a problem going upstairs be sure to request a ground floor room.
