We've stayed at the Moki for the past 8 years or so. It has always been one of our favorite places on earth. It's not a single thing that made this so attractive; it's a combination of location, down to earth people, basic and inexpensive rooms and the views. People here have been coming for years, and almost like a large family. If you wanted snobby, stuck up folks, you would not find them here. Will things change now that Castle resorts bought them? Probably. Hopefully not a lot. We just came back two weeks ago and again had a wonderful time. Sun rises that just can't be beat, away from the "real world" and just a chance to relax. We will still plan on coming here next time, and my hope is we will still find the Moki as pleasant as each other time.

Room Tip: Building D has the best sunrises, but my favorites are A or B because you are looking straight out t...

This large condo / timeshare rental facility is in transition. I believe new owners are Castle Resorts. It hasn't been a really super classy facility for many years, but the prior ownership at least maintained the basic buildings and a kept a positive sense of "Ohana" in the staff.

Stayed there last month and the place is looking pretty rundown - cockroaches in the parking lot, laundry room, and some of the 1st floor rooms in front; cold pool water (70 degrees); gas grills that don't work (important since you only have the community grills and a 2 burner hot plate & electric skillet); lots of remodeling noise from Bull Shed Restaurant (immediately adjacent), and a huge turnover of staff. Those 'oldtimer' staff who remain seem to be in fear for their jobs, so the overall spirit of the place was gone.

Sad... this used to be a favorite place to stay at a reasonable price for those who spend most of their vacation outdoors and who only need the very basics & a clean place to shower & sleep at night.

Room Tip: Try a second or third floor on the south side of the complex to avoid the noise & get the best p...

If you're looking for an inexpensive, yet wonderful place to stay on Kauai, this is it. This is not a resort. You won't find super fancy rooms, huge swimming pools or spa services here. What you will find are comfortably furnished rooms, a decent sized swimming pool, and rooms that have ocean views (all that are within a hundred or so feet of the ocean, which means that you fall asleep to and wake to the sound of waves crashing on shore). The "moki" is a great home base when you're staying in Kauai. It is centrally located in Kapaa which means you're within an hour of Hanalei and within an hour and a half of west shore attractions such as Waimea. The rooms are not fancy (two twin sized beds, a smallish bathroom and a kitchenette), but if you're spending all of your time in your room in Kauai then you might as well not go! We absolutely love exploring during the day and then enjoying evenings on our patio (lanai), listening to the ocean waves. Food prices are steep in Hawaii, so its nice to have a kitchenette (and gas grills outside) where you can prepare meals. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, but you don't need it with ceiling fans and open windows. No T.V.'s in rooms either, but if you feel compelled to watch T.V. while in paradise, stay home!

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room (walk right out to the pool without the hassle of stairs), or a room abov...

Very pleasantly surprised, and will return. Like reviews say it's not a fancy resort but a wonderful small older very quiet studio complex with outrageous views of ocean and sunrise. Spotless grounds, nice clean pool, walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores, Starbucks and a nice walking path along beach.. Don't want to leave in morning

We love Mokihana! Centrally located on the island, excellent farmers' market down the road, unreal sunrises everyday! It is old and a bit worn, but it is clean and everyone (the guests and the employees) are very friendly and accommodating! It is almost magical how friendly everyone is. Great place for kids to run around and play with a nice pool to splash in at the end of the day, and two shuffleboard decks to play on.

Room Tip: Rooms in the "A" building probably get less wind. Rooms in the "B" building are...

First off, Moki is NOT a resort experience. If you want massages and valets and overpriced food/drink move on. However. If you want a clean, comfortable, friendly (staff and other residents) studio at an unbelievable rate you might want to check it out. The grounds and pool are meticuliously maintained. The sunrises are spectacular. There are 3 gas BBQ's, putting greens, plenty of lounge chairs, shuffleboard, etc. So sunning and just hanging out are more than pleasant. The rooms are small but more than a sufficent place to cook, clean, and crash and have their own lanai looking out at the ocean. At night you hear the ocean and the trades keep you cooled down. Yet you are walking distance to groceries, Starbucks, and all sorts of amenities. The Bullpen restaurant and lounge is also located on Moki's grounds if you want to eat out for a decent price. It's central eastern shore location in Kapa'a makes trips north or south no more than 30-40 minutes ventures. We'd do Poipu on day, Hanalei the next. They have be threatening to tear this place down for years but rumour has it will live a couple more years. So I'll continue to take advantage, and be sad when it finally goes away.

Mokihana is very conveniently located and had everything we needed for our Kauai adventure. Easy to fix breakfast in the room, or walk along the beach to Eggberts for a morning treat. We walked to Wailua River Guides and had the fun of a half day river trip and hike without driving anywhere. The attached restaurant, The Bullshed, was also good for dinner, and other great eating places just a few minutes down the road. Most days we took off to explore and were gone til evening. Slept very well with the sounds of the surf, and awoke to the dawn over the Pacific. No fuss here.
