“Our favorite activity!”

North Shore Private Charters
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Our experience with North Shore Charters was satisfying in so many ways. It is a small, family-run business that runs from Kileaua (great location for us, since we were staying in Anahola). Despite our calling the day of, Janelle was easily, quickly, and pleasantly able to get us on an afternoon outing. Both in person and on the phone, she was incredibly helpful and thorough. Captain Gary and Drew were the very definition of didactic -- we were well-entertained by their puns, well-cared for thanks to their expertise/professionalism, and well-instructed by their knowledge of Kauai (current and past). The trip along the Na Pali was breathtaking and punctuated with interesting commentary, dolphins and turtles, sea caves, and other interesting features. Lunch and snorkeling were also excellent. Well-worth the price. We could not recommend them enough!!!

This was definitely one of the top things we did during our trip to Hawaii. We went to Big Island, Kauai and Maui. We did this adventure on July 15th, 2014. To begin with, Janelle was great with the entire booking process. She's very sweet! The price is also worth it because you get to see the stunning cliffs of the Napali coast and at the same time you get to experience a thrill/adventure ride.

Pros:
1. You get to go inside little caves
2. You get an adventure out of it
3. You get views of the stunning napali coast
4. The only way to see the Napali coast is via boat/raft ride or via the helicopter. We did both, and I would recommend doing both!
5. You get a very delicious lunch! Best sandwiches ever and yummy hummus. We are vegetarians and we still enjoyed our lunch!
6. Price is worth it
7. Janelle is so sweet

Cons:
1. Physically hard on the way back so do NOT do this activity if you have any back problems or are prone to injuries. This ride is pretty intense on the way back.

See below for the only complaints that we have:

One of the problems we had was that the captain never stopped when we wanted him to so that we can take photos. The boat fits 14 people. Out of the 14, ten of the people were part of my group. Regardless, he said that he has to get to the snorkeling spot because the other 4 people on the trip wanted to snorkel. I understand snorkeling is part of the trip, but if you have ten people who want you to stop to take photos when we paid $1,490 for all of us, then you should cater to our needs rather than focusing on "snorkeling" for four people. The tour is advertised as a Napali coast tour, and snorkeling is a bonus, so more focus should be placed on the tour itself rather than snorkeling. The focus of this trip is the Napali coast, NOT snorkeling, so I could not understand why he couldn't stop when we wanted to take photos. We barely got any good photos which we are upset about, but oh well!
2. The other con about this adventure was that the captain was VERY young (probably 20 year old) and he was inconsiderate whenever we asked him to slow down. He kept saying that he could not slow down but that wasn't true, because other rafts were doing the napali coast tour as well and they all slowed down when their passengers asked them to. I think he was in a rush to just get back and didn't much care about the well being of his passengers.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this company. It's great! However, just ensure that your driver is not a 20 year old.

This had to be one of my favorite experiences while in Kauai. Janelle made the booking process so easy and she was so nice and pleasant over the phone. She really took the time to answer all my questions and concerns.
Captain Gary and and guide Drew went out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time on the boat. When we saw spinner dolphins, Captain Gary even went off track to get closer to them so we could take photos. Gary and Drew were very knowledgeable about the island and gave us a lot of tips about other beaches and hikes we should check out for the rest of our trip.
They offer snorkeling vests if you need a little boost while snorkeling around- so if you're a beginner snorkeler like me, this vest gave me a lot of confidence. Their snorkel masks fit great and looked like they were new.
If you're staying in Princeville, it's quick drive over to their office in Kilauea. This proved super convenient for us since our check-in time was 7am.
Lunch was delicious and filling. It consisted of a sandwich, chips, cookies and a drink.
Loved this company and will book with them again!

It's a small, family run business that only operates a few months per year due to weather conditions. Taking off from the north shore of Kauai, it operates a hard shell zodiac to one of the most beautiful, undeveloped places in the world, the Na Pali coast. Captain Gary and Crewman Drew were professional, knowledgeable and fun to be with. We stay in Princeville and did not go to the Na Pali coast on previous trips because of the logistics of driving to the south shore and the long boat ride up. We took off from Anini beach and had a one half hour ride to the Na Pali coast. This is the #1 attraction on Kauai

What an amazing tour. My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Kauai and did many excursions but this was our favorite. It even beat out the helicopter ride which was the coolest thing I had ever done until this boat ride. The Na Pali coast is simply breathtaking. Our captain Sean and guide Drew were a lot of fun, very knowledgable and made for an awesome experience. This tour differs from others because you are on a zodiac which is a much more nimble boat. This allows the opportunity to actually go in and out of caves along the shore. To be warned, this added bonus comes with the drawback of a little less of a smooth ride than some of the other catamarans or double-hulled boats available on the island. If you are up for the added adventure it is absolutely worth it. The snorkeling at the mid-point of the trip was a lot of fun as well. I would highly recommend this to anyone as long as you are up for a few bumps on the way back (which really aren't too bad).
