“Wedding Night Dinner! VERY pleased!”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

We got married the week that Hurricane Iselle was predicted to make contact with the Islands, so we had to be flexible in our plans and move some of our reservations to different times/days. That said, we ended up dining at the Bistro after being married on Anini Beach. We loved the ambience, the service and the food. I am vegetarian and we had many options to choose from. Some of what we enjoyed included: Curly Kale Salad: Carrots, Kunana goat cheese, almonds & a yuzu dressing, Sweet Potato Fries: Crispy purple Big Island potatoes with a chipotle sour cream, Blue Crab Cake: Served with a miso buerre blanc, seaweed & tobiko, and my husband ordered the Seafood Chowder: Clams, New Zealand mussels, Kauai prawn & fresh fish. The drinks were equally exceptional, Gin Passion: Hendricks gin, fresh lime, agave & guava passion fruit puree and we also ordered a Bistro Bandito: Parrot Bay, vodka, Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice & a splash of 7up. The place was a perfect choice all the way around. We loved it! We thought they may do something to acknowledge our wedding (an hour before) or at a minimum offer a free drink, but they didn't do anything to make it special, which was somewhat disappointing, but overall, we had a great experience.

“Welcoming”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

Really welcoming staff. I really like the vibe of the place. It didn't seem too touristy, but still tourists were definitely welcome. The apps were great, they were a little smaller than I would have liked. Definitely go with the Pork spring rolls. My wife ordered the lamp lollipops off of the app part of the menu as her entree and it looked amazing. The three others at the table went with the fish special and unfortunately all three of our fish was overlooked. That's the reason for the 4 stars, but I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

“Just as great the second time.”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

We visited here ten years ago and loved it so of course we had to come back. The ambience, service and food is great. Love the vibe, wine list and the filet. We will be back next trip. Hopefully it doesn't take another 10 years.

“Nice and unexpected”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

Let me start off by saying that this rating of 5 comes with an asterisk. It's 5 for Kauai. This place does a lot of things right and some things so-so. It's not cheap but everything in Kauai is expensive.

Some of the appetizers are very small. The scallop was literally a scallop with some rice and mushrooms drizzled in sauce for $12.

On the flip side they had a phenomenal skirt steak with a soba noodle soup for only $16..... huh?? Lol

Everything was fair. Service was decent.

Doesn't sound like 5 star?? The top restaurant in Princeville is Lapperts Ice cream!

Trip Advisor needs to categorize is restaurants.

This place is a gem compared to other places.

If you are staying in Princeville or Hanalei then this is a must dine.

We have dined at all top places. All expensive and over spiced aka Salty.

This place is a good find. Also check out the Fish Market across the street separate review

“Great scallops; not so great crab cakes”
Reviewed 18 August 2014 via mobile

Cute atmosphere. Good service. Decent prices. Try the coconut porter beer - enjoyed it! Food was OK. The appy (smoked salmon dip) was not great. The bacon-wrapped scallops were very good. Large, but only two of them. The crab cakes were over cooked (almost burned breaded coating) & didn't taste of crab. Although it was on their list of small entrées, it was a pretty minuscule dish & more of an appy. As 1st time visitors to Kauai, we have plenty of more interesting restaurants to try out rather than returning here. First evening meal - atmosphere : 7.5/10. Food: 4/10.
