We stayed one night (middle of April) after being at the Marriott Lihue for 7 nights. We were fortunate to have gotten to use my parents timeshare. It was quite the change. But Garden Island Inn served its purpose-friendly service and it was clean. It is located in the center of the island and not far from either side of the island. The bed seemed like it needed to be replaced-a little soft and saggy for us. The gardens- immaculate and well kept. Kalapaki beach is a short walk.... just across the road. Many restaurants within walking distance (Beach Hut, a few restaurants at Harbor Mall, JJ Broilers, Dukes, Café Portofino). Warning this hotel is very close to the road. You heard traffic all night. Finally about 4 a.m. we turned on the ceiling fan and closed the sliding door. It would be great if they could turn off the waterfall in the back at night. It made alot of noise. This is coming from 2 people that need it quiet when we sleep. I would recommend for a night or two stay. It would not be the place for us for more than that span of time.

Feb. 8th-Feb. 23rd 2010... 8 family adults stayed at the Garden Island Inn in Lihue Kauai. . From the time that we arrived, to the moment we left.. we could not have enjoyed more hospitality and friendly service that we received here.. Our entire two weeks was truly a paradise vacation. We can not thank the owners and staff .. Steve, Donni, Phillip,Stan, Robin, Joyce and Shelia and your truly amazing cleaning staff, for a more wonderful vacation and place to stay. We were totally welcomed into your island as well as your home.. You can just see the respect that your staff has for you by the comments that they express towards you... You are truly blessed. The location... center of the island and not far from either side of the island.. The beds,,, soo comfy. The cleanliness... out of this world. The gardens... immaculate and so well kept, our backyard for 2 weeks..The beach.... just across the road was Kalapaki beach.. The very best.... Everything you needed was in close proximity.., ABC store... across the road.. We did rent a vehicle because we did do a lot of sight seeing but even if you did not have one you had access to all you needed close by... Ammenities ... second to none... Had everything you needed from beach chairs, coolers, beach towels, snorkeling equipment golf clubs... Even though we needed an extra set, Stan lent us his private set... What more could we ask for... Two of our couples stayed in the condo, owned by the GII, for one week... We therefore had access to the bar b ques and the pool which was truly an asset.. We could not have asked for anything more... Steve, Donni and Phillip... you should be very proud of your staff and of your facility... We would definitely recommend your place to anyone and everyone.. Thank you for your hospitality from the time we came. And especially on the day we left... Thank you so much.. It was so much appreciated. Your garden , your lawn, your lounges and tables were truly our back yard for the two weeks we were there.. We made use of them every morning for coffee, every afternoon for refreshments and most nights when we just needed to relax... We indeed felt at home.. If there was a negative it would be the "morning wakeups of the roosters" But we do understand that this is your native bird lol and they are ALL over the island... We have tons of pics to attest to that. Phillip asked what would we suggest for an improvement... we could not think of one at the time but since then the only thing would be is a Bar B Q and maybe an ice machine.. Definitely not a negative and not a necessity but would be nice.. Thank you again for an awesome vacation.. Miss everyone there and when and if ever we return, we will certainly stop in ....and stay..

My husband and I spent 6 nights here and heartly recommend it for GREAT value, great location and great service. Beach view, walk across to Kalapaki one of the few good safe swimming beaches on Kauai. We were Hawaii residents for many years and know good value AND genuine Aloha when we see it!
Dining: walk 8 minutes to the "Beach hut" where locals and tourists line up for good "grinds." Take out or eat upstairs for ocean views. and trade breezes. the Marriot hotel's "Dukes" for dinner and their "Barefoot bar" for happy hour and eats. Enjoy!!

My new wife and I stayed at the Garden Island Inn's Hale Kalapaki condo on top of the hill above the actual hotel itself. This place was absolutely amazing. We stayed for 5 nights and loved each and every one. The condo had everything we needed. Full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and even a dishwasher. There were 2 bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, full living room, dining area, and a lanai (balcony) that overlooked Kalapaki Bay.

The staff was extremely helpful, energetic, and simply wonderful. The ability to have use of beach towels, chairs, coolers, snorkeling gear, and beach reading was a big money saver for us. Just about anything we needed we had access to without the need to buy or rent. The one thing we inquired about using that they didn't have was a backpack. We had forgotten to bring one with us. We were going to hike the Waimea Canyon Trail one day and were hoping to borrow a backpack to haul our water bottles, extra clothes, etc. My wife spoke with the owner about our need, Unfortunately he had not thought about having backpacks available. I am certain that they have them by now because he told her that this was one of the best ideas that he had heard of and he was going to the store to pick some up right then. We told him we were going to just go out and get our own to use. He offered to buy it back from us to have on hand if we wanted to. This shows me the class of organization that he runs by wanting to help us in any way possible.

We are already planning on returning for our 10th Anniversary and the Garden Island Inn will be the place we will be staying in 2020!

We just returned from 2 weeks at the Garden Island Inn, a Palm Room on ground floor. This was just perfect for us, since my husband has Parkinson's, and there was a designated handicapped parking space close by, all on the same level. The gardens are beautiful, flowers and fruits everywhere, a lovely place to sit. We even had a delightful shama bird singing right outside our door.
The room was very convenient for us, bathroom with a shower that was safe and easy to use, as well as hairdryer. The temperature in the room was great, the ceiling fan was all the A/C we needed. Small kitchen area was perfect, with microwave, fridge, sink, utensils and coffeemaker with packs of coffee every day. Our single suggestion, not complaint, would be that a queen bed would be more comfortable, the king took up too much space in the room and was too vast for handicapped person and caregiver to negotiate in!
We were celebrating an anniversary, and were treated to a wonderful bag of Hawaiian goodies, courtesy of the management, and a vase of gorgeous white ginger blossoms, fresh from the garden, which scented our room for well over a week.
I have left the best part of Garden Island Inn till last. The people are lovely! Donni, Joyce, and especially Sheila and Stan, are the kindest, most caring people and made our holiday memorable. Mr. Layne, hang on to your staff, they are Hawaiian treasures!

We landed at Lihue airport at 1:20pm and I looked at my watch as we were about to jump in the ocean and it was 2:20pm! Now that's a convienient location! The staff at this motel areexceptionally friendly! We stayed in room 18 on the 3rd floor which had 2 queen beds. It had a small fridge and microwave. We had free use of beach toys, beach chairs, boogie boards, towels and books for the beach.
Lovely waterfall by the doors of the rooms.
If you want a fancy hotel, this location is not for you. It's located across the street from the beach but there is a cross walk.

This 1950s style hotel is situated right across from the ocean and across from the crazy expensive Marriott Resort. It is a great bargain. It is nothing fancy, if that is what you are looking for, but it is cozy, homey, and unique. The staff is amazingly helpful. The property has all sorts of beach stuff in it's lending library--snorkel needs, beach chairs, coolers, fishing rods, even golf clubs! The rooms are a little small (at least the one we stayed in), but quite comfortable. The location on Kauai makes The Garden Inn convenient for exploring all sides of the island on day trips. It is less than five minutes from the airport. I'm so glad we found this gem.
