“Excellent pool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2014

We came here on our honeymoon and were extremely impressed with the what we initially saw- the pool, grounds, art galleries, fish ponds etc. I must admit though, I put a special note in on our reservation to say it was our honeymoon, but there was no acknowledgment of this.
We booked on of the cheaper rooms available- garden view- figured we wouldn't be spending much time in there anyway. The room itself was good, free Wi fi was a bonus. It did have a funny smell to it though but I did get used to it. Drinks by the pool were pricy- about $14 a cocktail by the time you include taxes/tips. But the service was good. We bought one of the mugs for about $40 and shared it between the 2 of us- it was good as you could have juice in the morning and soft drink all afternoon. It was a self service thing so no on going tips either.
Overall we would be more than happy to come back, the pool is the best I have ever been in.

My husband and I visited this hotel from Jan. 31 until Feb. 2. When we arrived in the evening, we were disappointment that we couldn't upgrade to an ocean view room due to no availability, but, in the morning, when we opened the curtains to our lanai, our breath was taken away by the incredible view of the gorgeous pool area, Kalapaki Beach and the mountains in the backdrop. We are sure that there aren't many places on this earth more beautiful!

We found the service at this resort to be fabulous ... from the concierge service in arranging a wonderful helicopter ride around the island for us to the super service at Kukui's Restaurant and Duke's Restaurant. Also, one of the front desk clerks who works in the concierge area as well makes beautiful leis with ribbon. She was willing to take an evening to make one for me in colours I liked better than the ones that were on display. She is wonderfully talented and delightfully friendly and thoughtful.

Unfortunately, unlike one of the recent reviewers, we had to pay $41.00 each for the refillable mugs for coffee and soda and really didn't get our money's worth. There would have been good value if we could have refilled our mugs at the restaurants, but they were not part of the resort. Other than in the morning, we often weren't able to refill our mugs since the bar areas were closed at the beach and within the hotel when we returned after excursions. The plus side is that the mugs are very nice souvenirs of our stay in Kauai and they do keep drinks cold for extended periods of time.

If you decide to stay at this magnificent hotel, do take the time to enjoy your surroundings. The gardens are immaculately kept, the beach is beautiful and secluded, the shops in the hotel are very interesting with high quality items for sale and the food in the restaurants is absolutely delicious. Be sure also to visit Kukui, the beautiful white bird near the lobby who entertains hotel guests regularly with his loops around his perch.

Would we return to this wonderful resort? Absolutely ... in a heart beat. Hope that we can swing it some day soon!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 686 for the fabulous view. The ocean view rooms are likely beautiful too but it w...

This is by far the greatest venue I have been to in a long time. This hotel and resort has everything. The location is fantastic with secluded beach front property and a feeling that the outside world does not exist if you wish. The pool is more than a pool. It has 5 hot tubs strategically located the whole pool environment is absolutely unequaled. If you don't want to dine at the hotels many venues a short beachfront walk takes you right into the heart of things in Lihue. If you can't enjoy yourself here you should stay home. The staff is first rate and the overall service is wonderful. I will be back. If you are staying on Kauai you should really consider this resort. Just the right amount of seclusion with everything else you could want close by.

Unlike the post by LOVED, we had some issues. Three weeks prior to our arrival we were also asked for our preferences. We had a week in an ocean front 1 BR reserved and I asked for a high floor. We too were told of the construction. We arrived and were put on the 4th floor RIGHT under the room on the 5th floor that was being worked on. We were told that the rooms on higher floors (just redone, presumably) were used by "multiple week owners" and that was the best that could be offered as 1 BR OF. Unacceptable! We, too, are multiple Week MVCI owners (not here) and were made to feel like unappreciated non-owners. The resort is beautiful, the people are friendly, and Portfino's Italian on site had wonderful food. I don't understand why we were asked what our preferences were if they were never going to be honored in the first place. Maybe next time I'll ask for a floor beneath the construction and get placed well above it!

Thank you for posting your review on what seemed to have been an unpleasant experience at Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club which is our vacation ownership segment of our business. Please accept our sincere apology for not meeting your expectation on your villa location. With the current construction project that is coming to a close in the next few weeks, it can be challenging to place everyone in their desired villa location. We truly appreciate your kind words on the beauty of our resort and friendliness of our staff. Should your travel plans allow you to return to Kaua’i, please contact me at (808) 245-5050 to ensure we exceed your expectations.

Had the greatest customer service from this resort ever! They contacted me via email about 3 weeks prior to our stay (we stayed January 19-26, 2014) asking me what my preferences were regarding the location of our room. I told them I wanted a high floor with an ocean view...and that's exactly what I got! I was notified by email and by phone that they were doing construction in the tower that we were placed and asked if we were going to be ok with construction starting at 8am...I figured with the time difference from home that wasn't going to be a problem...and it wasn't. In fact, we never heard the construction; we did see workers going through the hallways but never actually heard them.

Our room was very clean and very nice; I'm sure we in one of the newly remodeled rooms. This resort used to be a hotel so the room configuration is a little different from your standard Marriott Resorts...but it didn't bother us at all. The most important parts to us: 1. the room was super clean and 2. the bed was amazingly comfortable.

The only thing we didn't care for was the food at the resort so we walked across the street and ate there when we were close to the resort.

This is a really beautiful resort, perhaps the best on this island. The pool is gorgeous and fun (and pools are important to us as we don't swim in the ocean), shops lovely, location on a small harbor is ideal, wonderful views from all the restaurants. Almost the entire staff was courteous and helpful........with one exception.

This was the absolute worst concierge service we have ever encountered and really not up to the standards of a resort of this quality. We had a very short stay here and wanted to cram in an activity or two if possible. At different times we actually spoke to two different employees at the concierge desks to find them fairly unhelpful. When one of our own ideas did not work out we had hoped for some suggestions but both of them seemed as if a sold tour would come out of their salaries. Getting information was like trying to remove a splinter from deeply imbedded flesh. One young woman bordered on rude. Is Concierge Service the punishment desk?

I rated this resort as Very Good only because I hope these two were just passing through, but it really brought down the score to about 3 1/2. Management, please take note. Some education and training needs to be done in this area.

Stayed for a few days to visit the island with a friend and had a very nice experience. Front desk, pool, and restaurant staff were all very pleasant and helpful. wi-fi was strong in the room and common areas. The big round pool is beautiful and warm, but I wished they had more umbrellas for shade when needed. We were able to rent a cabana in the afternoon for half off (2-5 pm).

Had breakfast buffet and poolside drinks at the resort, with dinners elsewhere around the island. Prices comparable to all Hawaii resorts (expensive :) Duke's and Cafe Portifino were both yummy. My fave restaurants are in Poipu though, so the dark (and sometimes rainy in winter) drive back to the resort was a little inconvenient.
Spa was bare bones without a sauna, etc.

My room was listed as Pool View but actually had a lovely view of the lagoon and mountains; it was clean and recently updated within the last few years. Wish there had been a screen on the sliding door to listen to the ocean sounds at night or when relaxing in the room.

The setting is picturesque and the location makes getting around the island pretty easy. I would recommend Kauai Marriott Resort to those who like a bigger resort, but want to be out and about exploring the island and aren't necessarily in splurging or pampering mode.

Room Tip: Pool view on the 6th floor of Ha'upu wing actually had a lovely lagoon and mountain view as well...
